Can I take an aspirin - I'm on warfarin?

My inr is low. I've had a horrendous headache today. Been taking paracetamol and drinking loads of water and resting in an air conditioned room but it's still really bad.

Can I take an aspirin- as a one off?

I am on warfarin.

I do... but hey. I'm no doc. If the INR is too low you won't bleed out.

Oh, but have a little food so it won't upset the tummy.

Do you self test? How do you know your inr is low?

We are not medically trained, but with aspirin as well as warfarin you are at risk of bleeding, if you are sure your inr is low I dont see why not, take after food.

If you can speak to your specialist or doctor in the morning, or your gp to see if you can have heparin in case this happens again.

Hope you feel better soon.

I don't self test. My range is 4-4.5. Below 4 I feel terrible. Tuesday I had my weekly test it was 3.4

I have Clexane to inject when I'm below 3

I felt terrible and just wanted relief from the headache. 💋

Hows the headache now? Did you take an aspirin? You know your own body, follow your instincts. In hind site I wish I followed my own advice sometimes and just did what I thought was best rather than wait for doctors to give me the OK! As long as you know the risks and know what to watch for I don't think aspirin would do too much harm especially as you know your INR was low. How quickly do you get this back up to 4-4.5?

Maybe worth talking to your doctor and explaining all this, and changing the clexane to when youre below 3.5? Its what is best for you at the end of the day.

No one really wants to know. They don't get how cataclysmic low inr is for me.

This week it is 3.6.gone up from 3.4. Reluctantly he put warfarin up by 2g a week !!! (3 x 19mg & 4 c 20mg)

Body awful. Legs painful. Walking difficult. Hand grip terrible and painful.

Head not to bad but there.

Waisted of another week of my life!!!

Hope ur ok out there 💋

I would be taking a trip to the GP, if your INR does not rise again, and also perhaps a review of everything with your consultant, especially if this keeps happening. It is a shame you can't self test as well to see what is going on, on a more regular basis. MaryF

As Mary has said - take a trip to your GP or get an urgent appointment with your specialist, this is now going on too long and you are suffering.

Talk as soon as possible with that Doctor who has stated that you need an INR of 4.0 - 4.5! (That is an unusual high therapeutic level.) I wonder if he or she understands that if you have got Warfarin you have to be in the therapeutic level!!! ??

You must test more often. Do you have the same vein-no as the fingerprick-no? As soon as you have a too low INR under 4.0 you should take a Fragmin- or Heparin-shot untill the INR is in range again. Then you need to take bloodtests very often and I think that if his or her intention is that you shall remain on Warfarin you ought to selftest!!! No wonder you feel bad!

How about that?

Your INR has been unstable for months now, I think that alone would be enough for you to see your APS specialist, if you cant telephone their secretary to get an urgent appoitment then try through your GP.

Your suffering has gone on long enough and you need medical intervention.

Keep battling xx

Ok so...

3 or below I can't get out of bed

3.9 or below I am exhausted, migraines and hurt everywhere

My actual inr range set by specialist is now 3 - 4.5

My tester is happy to keep me between 4 & 4.5 because that's when I'm well

Clexane at 3 or less.

I take both as advised by my vascular surgeon. Warfarin is an anticoagulant and asprin is an anti platlette.

Thank u all. I posted on my issues with my fluctuating inr again yesterday and neurological symptoms - u must be sick of my ongoing saga.

I'm glad I have u all. Last Saturday I completely lost it. I cried for hours and very almost did something silly I'm ashamed to say. I don't want to die but I just want a chance! When my heads so bad I can't even speak.

It's not bad today I suppose 6/10

Thanks for ur support 💋

Hi,

As Holly says, thats what we are here for - try to help and support!

It is very difficult but with that headache you need help. You must never be ashamed as it is really very very difficult to have this illness and with Doctors who sometimes do not understand.

I keep my fingers crossed that you are going to be so well that you can take some bloodtests of your INR more often and you have got a rather high INR today and also Clexane when INR is too low. The problem is that you can not test so often as you need to know when you need to take Clexane. So sorry about that.

Try to make notes as I probably already has said and eat the same greens (if you eat greens).
