Does anyone with APS follow a Gluten free diet? Or Paleo diet?

I don't but am considering, the Paleo route, as it appears it could have a positive effect on helping with the APS and the symptoms.

Hi, Debs_Much,

I'm allergic to wheat, so I follow a Gluten/Wheat free diet, plus i'm a vegetarian.

I understand that some people who have autoimmune problems have problems with Gluten, and I have a family history of Coeliac Disease (of which I tested negative for).

I'm VERY careful, but if I accidentally eat something which may have contained wheat, I get some similar symptoms to APS - headache, migraine, 'grogginess', achey, skin flare, poor energy, upest stomach etc.

I don't know anything about the Paleo diet, i'm afraid!

My diet has a touch of the paleo crossed with deeply mediterranean and I limit gluten...I believe all autoimmune diseases are affected to some degree by gluten sensitivity.... certainly notice if for instance I am travelling and eat something like white bread or pasta too often or close together, I am worse. I find if I space it out and stick to gluten free bread... I am less itchy! MF

Paleo diet is eating like they did in Paleolithic times, like cavemen ate in days gone by.

I have posted on here about the Paleo diet before. This is basically how I eat. I originally started eating Paleo in order to address metabolic syndrome in an effort to keep it from progressing towards diabetes. However, the more literature you read on the diet, the more you find that it can have a positive impact on autoimmune diseases. I would look at robbwolf.com, marksdailyapple.com and chriskresser.com.

I personally tend to believe that the sudden increase we're seeing in the prevalence of autoimmune conditions is linked to lifestyle issues. And though we might not be able to cure ourselves through diet alone, we might at least remove triggeres that cause flares of APS.
