Iron rich foods
Hi Bluelady-sing, I wonder if you can add just a little more detail to your post? It's not clear as it stands, whether you are asking a question about iron-rich foods, or, if not, what its intended purpose is. This will help members to give the post some context. Thank you.
I am very anaemic
So sorry to hear that Bluelady-sing, so we'll take it that you intended your short post to be a question. Sometimes, if you are severely anaemic, then a prescribed supplement is essential, but you should also then try to eat more iron-rich foods to help prevent a recurrence. There are many, but here's a list which are recommended:
Red meat, pork and poultry.
Seafood.
Beans.
Dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach.
Dried fruit, such as raisins and apricots.
Iron-fortified cereals, breads and pastas.
Peas.
Hope that helps!
In addition to the food sources already listed, there are iron pills but I would see a doctor for a prescription which is stronger and safer. Less commonly, there are other causes of anemia, for example, genetics, chronic conditions or sickle cell anemia. I personally have anemia from both genetics and CKD.
Spinach? Peas ??dates ?? Legumes ? Meats? Oats?
We try to eat as much leafy green veg, fish, red meat in moderation and a few eggs to increase iron. I also take an iron supplement called Spatone each day. My anaemia levels were better in December with the numbers back in normal range. Had blood taken on Wed prior to a telephone consultation tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully things will be good but as usual scared to death, particularly since I also will get results of a CT scan. I shall shake my way through today and tomorrow morning. 🙌
