Late night eating
I'm apt to do this too Helenbrc and I think it's just a nasty habit we get into, so that our minds then expect a treat every evening. One strategy I use is not to buy them to start with, though I'm the first to say that sometimes it's irresistible. You might also look at your routine and see if you can change it in some way for a less damaging habit, like choosing that time to take a nice relaxing bath with scents and candles in exchange and really making an occasion of it. Or some other personal ritual which will take your mind away from eating altogether.
I did once have a plastic pig which gave out grunts every time the light fell on it when I opened the cupboard containing the biscuits and crisps. It helped a lot for a while, but then I managed to tune him out and just snack anyway. I think it's mind over matter. Don't let your mind lose sight of the fact that you want to stamp out this habit and keep it attuned to your tummy rumblings overriding it. And finally, if you are doing this through late night hunger, see if there is a less damaging substitute you could eat instead. That's a good test of your hunger too. If you don't want to eat a bowl of plain rice, did you really want to eat biscuits or crisps? That serves to show you how much habits can lead us astray.... 😃👍
Hi Helenbrc ,
Have you tried eating foods with more protein in them at each meal so you don't get hungry at the night or during the rest of your day when you're not expecting to feel hungry?
