I read somewhere that mindful eating is a great way to focus on your intake. But what actually is mindful eating? I tried to meditate on what I was eating (I'm not a meditator) and all I could think on was that the filling in my ravioli didn't taste like beef and that fibres from my nectarine were stuck in my teeth! I think I'm missing the point somehow but not sure what I should be doing.
Hoping someone can put me on the right track.

I recently found a suggestion to set a stopwatch to time how long it takes you to eat a meal. You've to extend the time by a minute each day until it takes you at least 15 mins to clear your plate. I find that works well for me. It slows you down to appreciate your meal more, without having to focus too much on the textures in your mouth (that part can make me gag).
We were surprisingly quick too, but this technique has really helped me slow down - the times I haven't eaten with a timer, I've still been a lot slower to clear my plate, so it very quickly becomes your norm.
15 mins is a bit much if all you're eating is a bowl of cereal or 2 slices of toast though you can adapt the time to suit the size of meal. Maybe see how long your smaller meals take,and just aim to double that time.
Hello boaters mindful eating is just that being aware of what we are eating when we are eating and why we are eating.
I enjoy my food and like to eat at my dining table and I don’t rush eating and when I’ve had enough I stop so I don’t eat huge portions or eat for the sake of it it’s like I’ve a cut off switch that I listen too.

Thanks S - some useful tips there. I've been trying to work out what makes a tasty meal for me. Colour yes, but also acidity - tomatoes, lemon, vinegar etc. Not too good for my irritated stomach but tasty all the same! I've also found that if I take the time to prepare a tasty meal I savour it all the more. I've fallen into the habit of eating because I have to (insulin dependent) not because I want to enjoy my meal. And then it just becomes something else I have to do quickly so I can get on with something else. Hard habit to get out of!
