Hi everyone,ww received some awful news about my niece today. We've all been noticing that she has been losing weight recently and looks very slim. She went to the doc who put her on vitamins. She looks much worse now and her gp sent her straight to the hospital - they did all sorts of tests and the result was very upsetting - she is suffering from anorexia. Not told any member of the family until today how she feels fat and chubby and she has been Taking her lunch n supper upstairs and throwing it away - for months.she said she can't help it and wanted to tell someone finally but didn't know who. Obviously now she'll c a dietician and her parents try their best to help and her mum feeds her like a child - that's the only way she can and will eat..like a child basically. She's 15

Eating problem
Hi Sid, its heart breaking to see your children suffering. I found this forum on HU that could be helpful to you..they have a few thousand members on there who are going through the same things are you are.. perhaps put a post on there and hopefully you will get some good answers on treatment for her and how best to handle things for your own health too.

Thankyou for replying Notsoogood,it is heartbreaking like u said yes. And thankyou for the link I will definitely check it out
Has your Niece been referred to a therapist? A dietitian?
Yes she will be starting seeing a dietician. The whole family.
Sorry to hear this sad news. I am not saying this is necessarily the case here but the social pressures some girls to be slim can be daunting.
Yes andyswarbs ur right there
Hi Hidden
I hope your appointment goes well, and that you get lots of support for your niece and your family in relation to her eating issues. Wishing you all the best with it.

Hi and thankyou so much
You may find this link helpful, I know one of the lead clinicians.
It’s more about psychology than eating so although nutritional information will be useful for parents, not always helps the sufferer. Our granddaughter suffered with several eating disorders & although it took years, she has finally able to maintain her weight, work & have a full social life. There are no quick fixes & the best way grandparents can help is back off - don’t ask questions, support, empathise but don’t pressure your granddaughter to eat!
Best wishes CD
Yes CDreamer I think exactly the same. It's more psychological than eating
Hope she gets over this soon. Sometimes we don't realise and see changes when we see the same person every day. My hubby was diagnosed with bowel cancer in August, he lost so much weight and looked ill but seeing him every day, I didn't see it.
Love to you and your niece x
Yep. Exactly how we all used to notice every weekend wen she came over. Hey mum said it just didn't seem so bad to me cos I see her everyday
I'm sorry to read about your niece
Anorexia is something most people have to battle for life, but I'm glad to hear she's receiving support. I hope her healing goes as well as it can.
