Snacking
Hi Miakinz, welcome to HE
Have you been to your doctor to make sure there's nothing underlying?
I think the first thing to rule out is dehydration - we often mistake dehydration for hunger (they can feel really similar). How much are you drinking each day? What sort of things are you drinking?
After that, it'd be a case of looking at the type of foods you're eating. Artificial sweeteners have been shown to make us more hungry, for one example. If your diet is high in refined (simple) carbs/sugar, it can interfere with blood sugars, and that can cause confusing hunger signals too. You could probably do with cutting out sugar for a little while, to see if it helps at all.
Hi Miakinz188, There are all sorts of reasons why people snack too much. Eating is all quite complex. We can eat when we want comfort, because we are bored, because we become addicted to savoury or sweet tastes, as well as because there are some medical conditions which cause us to crave over-eating.As Cooper27 has mentioned, it's probably the best starting point to have a physical check and some tests to make sure that there's nothing physically wrong.
After that, you should look at your life and think about what's causing you happiness and unhappiness, and how you deal with the unhappiness.
While getting to the bottom of this, perhaps you can work out what are the better kind of snacks, so that you aren't eating too many 'empty' calories which cause us food addictions and cravings.
Things that fill you up are good. A hard boiled egg, a matchbox sized piece of cheese, a fistful of nuts or dried fruits are all much better than candy or potato chips. And see if you can limit those to one between each meal.
Getting control with our dietary habits starts with the head and not the stomach. You need to get to the right place mentally to be able to stick to better habits. So, overall, I'd say just look at your life in general and see what might make it better for you and how a good diet might help. Take care and I hope you get to the bottom of this.
I would say low carb but not low calorie.
Are you eating to much carbohydrate esp bread & cakes? They will raise your blood sugar and promote the release of the hunger hormone.
Low calorie snacks could mean starving yourself which is unsustainable.
Hi and welcome to the group, Miakinz188 .
Have you discussed starting a low carb. high protein diet with your doctor? Not all diets are the same and may cause a person to react differently compared to other people when on them. Please talk to your doctor before you change your diet/exercise routine. Are you allergic to any food/drink?
