Good morning everyone,

Many members have put on weight because of grazing whilst self isolating and we want to help you achieve a healthy weight and a healthy well being. So we have decided to offer members the opportunity to regularly weigh themselves and record their weight to help with their weight loss.

Here is the new BMI calculator so members can log their weight and see their BMI.

people.maths.ox.ac.uk/trefe...

I have some Fit bit scales that also measure my body fat.

Weight 145.6lbs 19% body fat BMI 20.89

We have a Topic: HE and Fitness and I've posted my stats on there a couple of times so here's a couple of links:

healthunlocked.com/healthye....

healthunlocked.com/healthye...

I hope that some members find the new Topic helpful and its for you to keep a log of your weight today and its always today so it doesn't matter what time zone or country you live in. This is a facility to help you achieve your goals and this posting will be pinned for easy access.

Enjoy your day now folks and remember eating a healthy diet is paramount to a healthy lifestyle. 🌈 🌞

Wow Hidden you must have read my mind! I lost weight at the beginning of lockdown as I was so anxious I wasn’t eating much, but then I was afraid to go out and didn’t have energy to exercise so I’ve now put it back on with an extra couple of pounds! Since my anxiety has reduced I’m more active again but need to start tackling the weight. I’m not in a rush as I want to keep nutrients and energy as high as possible so I’m happy for it to inch down however slowly as long as it’s going in the right direction.

My weight today is 9 stone 5 (131lb ) which is a BMI of 27.4. I need to get to 8 stone 7 to be at the top of a healthy BMI. My daily calorie range to lose weight according to the NHS BMI website is between 1383 - 1778. I lost just over two stone last year eating 1500 - 1600 cals per day so this is what I’m aiming for again but expect it to be slower now I’m closer to a healthy weight.

Good luck to anyone else managing their weight whatever your goals are! πŸ˜€

Thank you Fran, many members are in the same situation, my weight has been so I've used to lockdown to increase my weight and I've put on a stone since last summer but I was very lean and hadn't realised just how lean I'd become so feel more comfortable now and my jeans don't feel loose.

I think that you did really well losing 2 stone as its easier too put on weight than lose it...

We want to help all our members eat well and be well, its a simple philosophy. And I echo your sentiment and wish members well in managing their weight and we are introducing more initiatives to help members achieve this.

I hope that you have a great day and you'll soon loose those few extra pounds as you've done it before. πŸŒˆπŸ˜€

Hi Jerry, I'm not a fan of the BMI - probably because it never tells me in at the right weight! Apparently my healthy range is 60-82kg. Well that's never gonna happen. Even in my prime, I was never below 80kg - too tall and muscular - what a burden :)

Anyway, I'd like to tell you about the Smart BMI calculator. It takes age and sex into account, besides weight and height. I like it because it always tells me I'm in good shape ;)

Thank you Hidden watchman I've just tried your BMI calculator and it says my BMI is 20.9 the other one said 20.89

I see it as a guide for the majority and some people especially body builders will not be in the recommended BMI which's understandable.

So thank you for the link as its a good BMI calculator. πŸ‘

in reply to

The BMI will be similar. You should look out for the SBMI value. Mines has been calculated at:

Your Smart Body Mass Index (SBMI) is calculated as 39/70 or "39 points out of 70".

What does this mean? Taking into account my height, weight, age, and sex, I'm in the ideal range, just ;)

A fuller explanation is found here:

Amazing idea Hidden that's such a good idea, what a fantastic way for people to also support each other.

I think Zest does very well as of course she posts her stats on here.

Now things like this is what makes HU anazing.

Thank you

You have a lovely day, hopefully with some shade.

Well thank you Alicia, this is appreciated, it’s been hard for everyone the lockdown and pandemic. I’ve craved comfort foods like many other fortunately I needed to put on weight and now I’m in my ideal weight range.

I agree Zest is amazing at inspiring others with her fabulous diet and her exercise regime which sound very enjoyable so a credit to us all.

I hope that you have a lovely day and I’m sitting in the shade now πŸŒˆπŸŒžβ˜•οΈβ›±

in reply to

You are most welcome Jerry. It has been hard for most and I've also craved comfort foods ie. bread. I don't know if I've put on weight or not, my clothes don't feel any different. I used to be obsessed with my weight years ago so I rarely weigh myself.

Yes she is very good at what she shares, she's so encouraging.

It's been a good day thank you, photos to follow. Sitting in the shade was definitely the order of the day.

Have a good evening.

Do you know, it's weird. My weight hasn't changed much, only about 3lbs on during lockdown, but I've definitely put on more inches than the scales reflect. I can only think it's down to loss of muscle mass - I dread to think how many hours of weightlifting I've undone :D We've invested in some home weights now, and I'm hoping to get my strength up again.

I notice the effects the change of diet & exercise has had on my general energy levels though, and this will be my main focus. Weight loss would be a side-effect of pursuing feeling well again for me :)

in reply to Cooper27

This is interesting as neither did mine until about 6 weeks ago as I weight my self before I get up.

Weights are great and I use weights for HIIT exercise first thing and that makes everything come alive, well sometimes.

We have never seen anything like this and we’ve all suffered fear and loathing of an insidious virus so mental and physical health has suffered for many of us.

I think that you have your priorities right right and we’ll cheer you on with getting and feeling fitter. πŸ˜Šβ›±

We are both Slimming world members and have been at target for many years. During lockdown we have had weekly zoom meetings with our consultant and members. We weigh each week at normal time and most weeks are maintaining .

Good idea to offer members a plan to weigh. It does help.

in reply to kitchengardener2

Well good for you both and I’m impressed with this so good for you. And thank you as we want to help members to be as fit and healthy as possible. πŸ˜Šβ›±

Thank you Jerry! Regret I don't know my height so can't fill in the rest! I know I've put on weight as the doctor told me when I last saw him! I think that was a warning!

in reply to lgd333

Thank you it’s not difficult to work out your approx height but if you know that you need to lose weight then that’s the main thing, so good luck and we will cheer you on. πŸŒˆπŸ‘πŸ˜Š

Hi Hidden

This is a really useful. I will definitely come here when I'm reporting on my weigh-ins - I am weighing monthly at the moment (in terms of reporting it in the forum), and so I'll be looking forward to popping in here to do that. My goal is to maintain my weight within a healthy BMI, and I'm also hoping to do some Strength exercises this month as well.

I'd like to wish everyone who has posted here success with their goals, and hope it goes well. I've clicked on 'like' to show my support - and am cheering everyone on.

Zest :-)

in reply to Zest

Thank you Zest I'm glad that you think this will be useful as we have the HE and exercise Topic and if members want help with eating healthily and losing weight we’ll cheer each other on.

I’m sure you will keep your BMI in the healthy region as you eat well and have more than enough exercise so I wish you well with your goals.πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ 😊

I have an all singing, all dancing , weighing machine that tells me all sorts of wonderful things such as body fat ratio, BMI, Bone mass and how much I weigh, which seems to vary by about 3 lbs on a daily basis, depending on exercise, what I eat and how much I drink. I also have a BP device that presents wonderfully random readings, as does the electronic device in the local surgery, as in 220/140 while sitting still, (don't panic Mr Mannering) followed by 140/80 on the old fashioned pump it up device. Disappointment all round , saws and hammers and blood letting devices hastily shoved back in drawers.

I also have a fingertip thingy that tells what my pulse is doing and how much oxygen is in my fingertip. Lowest pulse score so far is 25, on a very transient basis, so by the time I got to the recorder that was given to me to go along with implanted device in my chest, switched it on and put next to the implanted recording device it has bounced back up again. I also have a mandatory fitbit so I can annoy myself when I can't get out for a walk.

However my best device is carefully calibrated to give me instant feed back on a daily basis. Every morning I thread it through my trouser loops and fasten the buckle at the usual position. Slightly loose -good stuff. Slightly tight - no cakes ,biscuits, etc. Works every time, doesn't need batteries and rarely goes wrong,
