Just over 25, but I am having a problem with water retention.

Have you talked to the doctor about the issue with water retention?

in reply toActivity2004

Not as yet. Tomorrow is my most likely day to try that. I have not had an HF nurse for a year (reCently found out) and I don't know if the surgery has an HF team. If they're not helpful I'll try the BHF helpline

The helpline sounds like a great idea to try as a backup plan. :-) Please let us know what you find out when you can get more information. :-)

Telephone appointment with doctor today. First step

Activity2004Administrator in reply to

That's fantastic news! :-) What time is the appointment scheduled?

in reply toActivity2004

Done. Thanks for asking :) My GP is going to write to the HF nurse I had from Eastbourne and ask her to put me back on her books. So I will talk to her at some point for more information. Everything else was also positive. I have a lot of pains so he agreed to put painkillers on my prescription. He has increased water pills to see if that helps with water retention. And I have to arrange blood test in about 2 weeks to check my kidneys. So I'm now a happy camper. :)

That's great! I can't wait to hear more about it after you talk to the nurse. Hope she can give more information when the time comes. :-)

in reply toActivity2004

Doctor thinks she won't get the letter for 2 or 3 weeks.

Activity2004Administrator in reply to

Okay. Give it time and then let us know what happens after that.:-)

in reply toActivity2004

I am now back with my HF nurse. Just that makes me feel better. SHe is going on holiday next week and will have more when she returns. Including putting me on to the system nearer my home

That's great news! I always want to go to a doctor and their office if they are closer to my house. It makes the travel and stress less for me. :-)

That's great news! Keep it up with the running. :-)

The bmi isn't accurate so I don't use it.

in reply to

It doesn't work as well as it might for everyone, does it? I know you can get fit, strong and healthy sportsmen, like rugby players, and they can come out with a BMI that tells them they're obese! But they're not - it's all muscle, and muscle is heavier than fat.

I think BMI is still widely used because it's the closest they can find to a "one size fits all". But it's not perfect by a long way.

in reply to

Exactly!

Muscle mass, bone density and age aren't considered using the Bmi.

Use scales to weigh yourself, you will know if you are OK or not by looking at yourself also.

Some doctors still use the bmi.

Please don't consider this intended to be negative, but why would I share this information? What do you intend to do with it? Or is it just curiosity about how unhealthy the members of HU forums are?!

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to

Hidden ,

The purpose of the poll is to see how things are going since everyone has been in lockdown and wanted to make sure everyone was doing okay health-wise. No one has to give their personal BMI totals unless they want to give them.:-)

in reply toActivity2004

No worries - I was just curious because I always want to know why people are asking me for personal information. Of course, nobody has to disclose the information. They can simply ignore the post. I am quite often happy to disclose information but almost never without knowing why people want it and what they're going to do with it!

I'm the same way-- even in doctor's offices and on (some) job paperwork. :-)

Mine is 25.3 so I'm nearly in the healthier category but need to continue with weight loss. I feel inspired to get it down further because I'm so close now. It has taken me 6 weeks so far.

Congrats on the great work done so far. Keep it up! :-)

26 but losing muscle and weight. I worked out quite quite a lot before being diagnosed and whilst I value BMI, my fat ratio prior to being diagnosed was 14% which is quite low and reflects fitness and muscle.
