This came up recently as a Woolton pie is a wartime version of a vegetarian cottage pie or pastry pie. I added gram flour to mashed organic potatoes cooked in their skin with milk and butter so it was like mixing 1/4 pastry with mashed potato I covered cauliflower broccoli carrots onion and peas in a gravy made with yeast extract a little gram flour to thicken, I think I was slightly over exuberant with the gravy by the look of things.
I've made pastry with half pastry mix and half mashed potato and it is very nice, this was really nice as it had with qualities of pastry and mash.
