Question on Fermented Soy

โ€ข35 Replies

Hi All

I've been going through an email that was sent to me by the company that carried out my Gut Biome test and they have recommended consuming Fermented Soy. I have had a look online and find it confusing; I found a powder that was on Amazon and some of the reviews said it tasted awful. The company have suggested Miso, would you just add Miso to your cooking?

I'm new to using ingredients like this hence posing the question.

Thank you :)

Hi Crazyfitness I have been using miso for years barley, rice and white miso which is lighter and sweeter. I add the miso to my soups and stews once in the bowl. I do not cook it because it then loses its benefits. I use the white miso also in dressings. Yum! I am UK based and get a wonderful tasting fermented tofu called Feto which I dry bake and serve with a sauce. Good luck. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi Brightfeather

Thank you for that, it's really helpful. I do have some miso in the cupboard and really didn't know what to do with it.

Once again, thank you.

Alicia

Thanks Brightfeather!๐Ÿ‘

Hi Alicia, I use miso paste sometimes and I just mix it in with a gravy or sauce but don't use too much as it has a very strong taste. I bought some Miso in my local whole food shop.

You can always add more...that's my advice and good luck and do let us know how you get on. ๐Ÿ˜€

Hi Jerry

Thank you very much, I'm getting the picture now, think I will add it gradually at the end of my one pot cooking and maybe add it to the quinoa that I consume frequently.

I will certainly let you know how I get on. I've been looking at my Gut Biome Report and a further response to an email I sent to the company, I was struggling to understand the report as it was very scientific.

Once again, thank you. :)

Miso is delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹ .

As, Brightfeather noted, youโ€™d want to avoid "cooking" the miso. That is, avoid boiling ๐Ÿšซ โ™จ๏ธ it because that amount of overheating ๐Ÿ”ฅ kills the good bacteria ๐Ÿฆ .

Just use warm/ tepid water ๐Ÿšฐ when using it in your soups ๐Ÿต, stews ๐Ÿฒ, sauces, etc. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

[The good stuff is pricey ๐Ÿ’ฐ ๐Ÿฆ but oh so worth it for the good bacteria ๐Ÿฆ  & the flavour. ๐Ÿ˜‹ ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ€ ๐ŸŒบ ๐ŸŒž ]

Hi Kai

I love your responses, they are so upbeat and love the emojis you use.

I will add it at the end of my cooking so I don't do that.

Thank you very much.

Alicia :)

Oh, for clarity, crazyfitness/ Alicia, my understanding is, UNpasteurised* miso paste (refrigerated**) contains โ€˜good bacteriaโ€™ ๐Ÿ˜‡ ๐Ÿฆ  thatโ€™s โ€œalive".

[The pasteurisation ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pas... ) process kills ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ—ก ( ๐Ÿ˜ต โšฐ๏ธ ) the good bacteria; therefore, we bypass โ€˜pasteurisedโ€™ miso paste.]

Hi Alicia. Glad you have had some info back after your tests. I use miso, we have it in soup most days so you could add it to your gut healing soup you make or make a broth and add a teaspoon and have it as a drink. Itโ€™s lovely ๐Ÿ˜ good luck! (I buy 3 jars of organic miso at a time on amazon, 3 for ยฃ9)

โ€ข in reply toAgoodenough

Hi Ali

Yes I've been going through the report seeing what I need to purchase. I've ordered kefir grains to make coconut kefir and have a spelt flour starter for sourdough, I tried before but it didn't work because our house wasn't warm enough, the heating is now on.

I'll look for the organic miso on Amazon, thank you.๐Ÿ™

Hi Liz

Oh poor you, it's an awful illness, I'd rather be in pain that being sick. Funny thing is I had foodpoisoning back in November last year and that's why I've been on a quest to improve my health, I'm still getting the odd problem but nothing like I was.

The two best things I've ever done and can highly recommend both is seeing a Nutritionist and having a Gut Biome test.

I hope you improve very soon. You will find a fair bit of knowledge on here, people are amazing.๐Ÿ˜€

I have just come across your comment about soy products being recommended. Knowing that a number of our members use soy products I found and read this interesting discussion article which is now especially relevant since recent headlines have recommended reducing the amount of meat we eat. Have a read of this and see what you think: healthscams.org.uk/soy-food...

โ€ข in reply toTibblington

Thank you very much Tibblington , I'm goingvto have a read later and will definitely let you know what I think.๐Ÿ™
