I have some ACV questions, which I'm thinking people here may be able to answer. So I'm wondering why apple cider vinegar is meant to be so good for you? What makes it better than, say, red wine vinegar/distilled malt vinegar? And what is "the mother" really?
Apple cider vinegar: I have some ACV... - Healthy Eating
Apple cider vinegar
Hi Copper, I like apple cider vinegar because its gluten free easily available as an alternative to malt vinegar. 😊
I really like the taste of it and it does heave health benefits so here's a link:

I too like it & have a far bit every week. Nice
Thanks for the link - it's great for so much!
I wonder what it is that apple cider vinegar has, that makes it so beneficial compared to other vinegars!
I did a search for apple cider vinegar on pubmed and got 79 results, and only one was a study on humans, and that didn't compare ACV to any other vinegar. There were a couple of animal studies reported but they didn't do any comparison either.
There are some vinegar comparison studies in animals like this one that don't use ACV, but the authors don't suggest any detailed reason for the difference:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/2...
I have to say, based on that search, that the heath claims for ACV are not really supported by evidence (doesn't mean there are no benefits of course, just that researchers arent looking at it much)
Hi Cooper27
I've noticed that historically there's been more information relating to Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)- than other vinegars, but I think recently there's been some more relating to Red Wine Vinegar - I haven't had chance to read about that kind yet though.
I use ACV regularly, and have a bottle of the regular type for my cooking, and use the more expensive version (with the 'Mother' in it) for occasional drinking in water - although I am careful for my teeth enamel when I do that.
Zest
When I first started eating more fruits and veg among other natural-based foods, I didn’t even bother with ACV.
I had heard about good it was but I felt I was doing pretty good without it. I was losing weight via my homemade smoothies which mostly consisted of cucumber and celery.
Then after a while, I decided to add ACV to my diet. I assumed this would help further the weight loss and generally improve my health further. Thinking about it though, I don’t think it completely worked that way.
A few months ago I wrote a post on here about how I was remineralising my teeth naturally via calcium and certain vitamins and this was working.
At the time, I was also adding ACV to my coconut water.
I also do some oil pulling using coconut oil and this has helped with my sensitive teeth, in the past.
But ever since I have been using ACV I feel like my teeth have become a bit more sensitive.
So now I have decided to stop using ACV for internal use and I am losing weight again and I think my teeth are not feeling as sensitive as they were :).
I get Bragg’s ACV and on the bottle it has suggestions about how you can take it internally.
So I guess ACV is good for some people but obviously not that great for me.
Oh wow, I love ACV. It's amazing!

But let it be known that I love white vinegar on corned beef and cabbage.
