Post nasal drip: what can I really do?

I don't know how old I was when it first began, I remember it must have been before fourth grade or when I was ten years old, but every single time I get a cold I am also affected by a severe post nasal drip.

For those who do not experience it, it feels for the first day as though somebody is dripping hot sauce right behind my nose (right about the area that hurts if you accidentally get water up your nose.) For the whole day, I can feel it slowly and very painfully creep down the back of my nose to my throat. It hurts to breathe, talk, swallow, or basically even slightly move my throat and nasal passage. This painful sensation is accompanied by a strong nausea. That night, I will wake up and the sensation will be directly between my throat and nose, and I will be super thirsty but unable to properly drink. The next day, the sensation is much more bearable, becoming just a burning and parched sensation in my throat, but it is also more reactive to allergens in the air and I will often break out into coughing fits. For like the next two weeks, I'll randomly begin to feel a tickling in my throat and begin to cough without being able to stop. It's super fun.

Anyway, creative writing activity aside, basically it makes each and every minor cold an absolute nuisance and super painful, and even if I wouldn't miss school with a normal cold I will be very close to throwing up or something. I just want to know, does anyone have a similar experience? What can I do about it, to make it more bearable? Does this indicate a larger problem, like a deviated septum or a sinus problem that I'll have to deal with? Can I ever get surgery in the future?

TL;DR: I hate post-nasal drip. What can I do to stop it?

Have you talked with your doctor about the issue? Did you get a chance to get an appointment?

What medications are you using.

Certainly discussing this with your health care provider would be sensible. There is some information in the NHS website about Catarrh, and some of that might be helpfui:

nhs.uk/conditions/catarrh/

You could also discuss it with your Pharmacist to see what they suggest?
