What I am doing with the calcium intake is good but could be better.

This article does not even mention taking calcium but more to do with getting vitamin A, D and K2.

This is an article on calcium supplements which might be useful. You need to be careful not to take too much. Using a fluoride toothpaste will probably help with strengthening your teeth.

Hi Penel,

Thanks for the article :).

I don't think I will be needing calcium supplements.

The calcium I consume through seeds and grains and so on is enough according to the RDA from the link you provided.

Something I left out referring to the article I posted was that if you are consuming calcium you must take vitamin D as well as the vit D absorbs the calcium.

Thankfully seeds and grains such as Hemp and Chia have both calcium and vit D :).

I had a brief look at Moringa on the internet and through the website I visited it was saying that Moringa MAY reduce blood sugars, which would be interesting news for diabetics.

But one thing I will add to that is be mindful of where you get your information from cos not all of it would be valid information and some might be correct but might not be as helpful information as first thought.

And by the way, I will not be using a fluoride toothpaste any time soon.

I make sure the toothpaste I use is fluoride free.

in reply toMatt2584

Vitimin d also needs magnesium.

Which I get enough of too :).

Apparently, not a lot of people get enough vitamin D.

From your link, I have been meaning to get into wheatgrass. Perhaps now is the time.

Matt2584 in reply toandyswarbs

I have read good things about wheatgrass. Not just through the article I posted but other articles too.

That's because calcium is not deficient in our diets as a generalisation. With calcium you also need magnesium at a ratio no less than 2cal:1mag and thats the minimum. Calcium supplements are also associated with risks so they're not usually recommended unless there's an issue. Of course anyone can buy them though without those risks being stated on the label. One of the other things about the Masai and other tribes and their amazing teeth is that the teeth's health is formed in the womb of the mother. so for you and I it may be too late to achieve the situation they have got. But we can stop them getting worse and I've heard of people who's tartar disappeared from taking k2 which is nice! I'd like to never have below my gums scraped thank you very much. Was meant to get that done but no way. sorry not ahvingnmy gums peeled back. Not happening. I'm taking d and k2 now. I think I also need vitamin a for other reasons too. But I'm going to TRy to get it from food. Hope you're teeth get lovely and shiney and white!

Matt2584 in reply to

I’m the same, I would rather get minerals/vitamins from food. I don’t trust dentists. What foods are you eating to get your vitamins?

in reply toMatt2584

Natto for vitimin k..although I've also got a supplement now...I do eat tallow lard liver for d but I also take supplement in winter and get the sun in summer. I can't get enough magnesium or iron in what I eat either so I take a mag supplement amd I eat blood pudding every then and now to get some iron. I can't really manage on just food at the moment because of lockdown I can't get to proper supermarkets so I shop at the corner store and they have very little I can stomach eating. Probably a huge part of why I've ended up deficient in the first place. Grrr. So for now I have to take the supplements.

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584 in reply to

I had to have a glimpse of natto on the good ole internet cos I had, vaguely, heard of natto but couldn’t tell you what it was.Looks nice though.

I see it is made with soybeans. I normally try to stay away from soy most of the time cos a lot of soy is GMO.

But I see it’s fermented soy which I think is better :).

Do you like mushrooms?

I don’t eat them all the time but I heard that mushrooms absorb vitamin D that the sun emits.

Interesting for vegans to know.

I’m not vegan myself but am more interested in veganism now.

I eat less meat now.

Spinach is a good source of iron, I sometimes have that in my smoothies.

And chia seeds are a good source of magnesium. I have them every day.

Apparently, the roman gladiators used to eat a lot of chia seeds :).

Blood pudding, is that savoury like black pudding?

That is another dilemma referring these lockdown’s, people can’t get all the access to foods and other things like they did before :(.

in reply toMatt2584

Ah yes natto isn't very nice. It kinda tastes like burn beans in snot. But you aquire a taste for it after you force yourself the first few times. Lol. Like olives! You can make it with any bean too but I tried making it myself with different beans and it didnt work so good.I love mushrooms...I only read this recently so today I am actually sitting here eating the mushrooms I left outside in the sun yesterday. I don't know for how long I am meant to leave them in the sun for do you know? They got a bit shrivelled.

Blood pudding is black pudding aye. I was going to say black pudding but I thought people outside of Ireland mightn't know what that.is. lol!

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584 in reply to

“Burnt beans in snot”... I think I shall pass haha.Yes olives, they do have an acquired taste don’t they.

My bro loves them. I”m not so sure on them though.

I’m not sure how long you are supposed to leave mushrooms in the sun but I would have thought for a few hours.

I imagine it would be like us humans sunbathing. You can’t sunbathe for 5 minutes and expect to get a nice tan :).

Maybe the ‘shrivelled’ look is the right amount of time for mushrooms to soak up vit D.

I’m sure I have vaguely heard black pudding being called blood pudding before but I usually use the term ‘black’ pudding which I suppose you won’t be able to use soon enough because of it causing offence :).

The whole thing of offensive words does my head in. “You can’t say this, you can’t say that”.

Anyway, my nan was Irish so maybe that’s how I had heard of ‘blood’ pudding before.

I love black/blood pudding... especially when it is surrounded by bacon, hash browns, fried bread, an egg or 2 and baked beans :).

I told you I’m not vegan :).

in reply toMatt2584

No irish people call it black pudding. But I think other countries or internationally the category is called a blood sausage and I just Got the two and mashed them together. Black pudding is one type of blood sausage...there is actually a blood pudding as well which in Ireland is called drisheen and its basically blood poured into an intestine and spiced and boiled and becomes a soet of jellyish soft thing. And there's a Spanish blood sausage as well. So I think overall they are blood sausages and black pudding is one and blood pudding is another. I just called it a blood pudding cos you might be american...and not know what it is. And I should have said blood sausage but I forgot that word..I figured if I didn't say blood you wouldn't guess what was in it. Lol..phew sorry for being confusing.

I left the mushrooms all day but I wasn't sure if they needed days or hours. Thanks. Kind of ironic that my food now has more vitimin d as do I... Its like having a solar panel on my roof I have hot water when its sunny but thats exactly when I don't need hot water.

You forgot the sausages with your fry up!! And the mushrooms and fried tomatoe that nobody eats. Lol! OK I'm starving now gotta go!!

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584 in reply to

I MIGHT be American... but I’m not.I’m actually English :).

Now, have you had white pudding?

Slightly different from black/blood pudding but still very tasty.

Yes, I thought I forgot some of the ingredients to the fry up.

Sausages are a must.

I sometimes have mushrooms with mine and the fried tomato that nobody ever eats, well, my mum eats those :).

On occasion I will have a fried tomato as well :).

Back to teeth and vitamins that help repair teeth, How are your teeth anyhow? Have you noticed any difference after consuming vitamins A & K?

I forgot to mention that I get extract powders from Holland & Barrett and the like. I am consuming some moringa right now but wheatgrass is another great one.

Both of them have A and K in them.

It’s funny cos according to some websites, Health online.com being one, wheatgrass has A and K and other vitamins and minerals but when I went into a local health food shop the other day and brought a pack of wheatgrass it only mentions vitamin C.

I think really that these brands need to state exactly what’s in them cos it’s not right for one brand to say it has this and other brands don’t have them.

But anyhow, when I have a coffee or something I might add a little moringa to it. Not too much cos then it might taste gross, but as they say “A little goes a long way”.

I usually have a homemade soup for my lunch and at the moment I am including kale which has A and K in it.

in reply toMatt2584

Those things have vitimin k1 found in leafy greens. For teeth and bones and arteries and basically getting calcium into the right places Its vifmin k2 you want. Which is found in cheeses especially hard cheese like sheddae meat fish and natto which is the burnt beans in snot situation. I've only been taking the k2 for about a week now and I don't think I'll notoce if my bones get harder or my arteries get softer ...I might notice after a year Or so if I get a dental x ray and the plaque is better. Its supposed to help clear plaque not onlt from arteries but also from the tartar build up under your gum so I won't know if its worked for a while. And yes white pudding in the best. Not as nice as haggis though I absolutely adore haggis. Only had it on a holiday to Scotland I wish I could get it here. I quite like the giblets and eyeballs and hooves and trotters and gristly bits of things ...

My Mon takes morniga for her iron. To be honest looking at a lot of powders and potions like spirulina and maca and all the sauperfoods when I've looked at their content and then the content of something normal like cabbage or apples they're not that super so I stopped buying them. I sometimes pick nettles and rosehips around the place for free.. I feel all these things from south america and whatnot are just the equivalent of our nettles and rosehips and they're just trying to flog something as being super. But I haven't found a food that's much more super than what we get here anyway. Except coacoa powder which I actually like. Lol!

OK I'm craving haggis now! Must go make some din dins. Lol!

A while ago, probably a couple of years now, my tooth chipped while eating breakfast.I wasn’t in any pain and that was when I was looking into foods that could help repair the tooth.

I was hesitant to go to a dentist cos like I was saying, I don’t trust them.

But eventually I did go to get a check up and he said I had a decaying wisdom tooth which he would take out and he also noted that some other teeth needed filling.

This was late 2019, I think.

I was a bit hesitant in going back.

Then covid hit. So I couldn’t go to a dentist even if I tried and like I say, I’m not in any pain which I am thankful for.

During the first lockdown my tooth did crumble a bit further and then I really started to concentrate more on repairing my teeth.

That was when I read about the A and K or K2.

Also, there is an online doctor called Doctor Eric Berg and he is good.

Apparently every tooth had a cavity when he was little but if you look at him now his teeth look in good shape.

He uses Xylitol, sugar.

I add that to my coffee and other foods.

I also chew chewing gum a lot, mainly when I go out, and I chew an aspartame-free gum called Peppersmith. Why I cannot stand aspartame and choose an aspartame-free gum is another story.

Peppersmith are really good and they useXylitol as well.

I do oil pulling to cleanse my teeth.

Like a mouth wash but it takes longer. You don’t just swish for a seconds-minutes and then spit it out. They recommend you swish for 10-20 mins!

Tis a bit much but I swish while I am exercising and listening to moosic :). It helps the time pass.

I use coconut oil as my oil of choice but now make a mix of coco oil and bicarb.

I put a little of the mix in my mouth then top up with 3 spoons of coco oil and swish.

And when I brush my teeth I put some of the mix on my teeth and wipe it on with my finger.

By the way, I forgot to add that I have plaque/tartar on some of my teeth as well.

I am always reading how brushing your teeth with a bicarb mix is the best bet.

It hasn’t done anything to the build-up just yet but maybe in time I’ll notice a difference :).

Oooh haggis

Once lockdown lifted last year, me and my folks went on a trip to Scotland.

The hotel we stayed at in Fort William had Grant’s haggis, it was nice. Nicer than the haggis I had in another hotel we stayed at in Gretna Green.

Can you not get Grant’s haggis in Ireland?

We can get it down here in South England.

Or are you talking about traditional home made haggis? That is something I haven’t actually tried.

in reply toMatt2584

No I've never seen grants haggis. I think the ones I had were homemade it was in two quite homemade sorts of resteraunts... but I've no idea. I'd eat any kind tbh. I with have a look online it might be in a specilaity shop. I found tayto crisps in los Angelas so anything is possible!

I have metal tools to scrape my tartar. They're just like what the destist has except I can do it slowly and with less horrific noise like metal grinding than he does it. they're so vicious. I knkw you can scrape your own teeth if you don't do it right but I'm very gentle. And its very satisfying. I can't stand toothpaste so I use tea tree oil and salt or bicarb or just mouthwash...I got something called allantoin which is the active element in comfrey ..it helps fibroblasts and either blast cells proliferate. They use it in expensive regrowing enamal type mouthwash. At first I used comphrey from the garden. Then I bought the powder to add to mouthwash. And useful for wound healing etc. Horstsil also has a stimulating affect on blast cells... I haven't seen much about it being used to do teeth but on the osteo site people use it for bone density. Which is the added bonus of helping you teeth you'll also be helping your bones! So its not wuite out here. You find it in hedrows and wastelands... You can google what it looks like and you pick it when thebgrene stems come out in a few weeks and dry it grind it add it to soups or make tea of it. You can also do a comphrey mouthwash with comfrey root. That's a bit harder than the powder though.

My moms a huge fan of Eric berg! You should also look up an Irish guy called Ivor Cummins ...he's all about clearing arteries but he's done an interview with a few people I think the guys who made or were involved in the widow maker movie...about artery health very interesting. But the guy who cleared his claficied arteries with diet and k2 etc also noticed his teeth lost their plaque...I mean he didn't have to brush his teeth he said. (Exaggeration I hope) so that's all tied into it I think. Anyway I have extra wisdom teeth and never had a cavity so I think I'm good. I just have dreadful gum disease and its mostly sugar I'd say. Sl I am trying to get on top of that but so much else going on I haven't managed it so far. But I'm getting there. Eating keto for one meal a day and learning some carb and sugar free recipes. I'll get there soon.

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584 in reply to

I learnt a couple of things there, hadn’t heard of allotoin and probably heard of horsetail but didn’t really know of it’s benefits so thanks for bringing them up :).

I know of Ivor Cummins.

Me and my mum have done some research (mostly my mum) into this pandemic and looked up various doctors and such and Ivor Cummins is one of those names.

I’ve got to admit though, I haven’t really listened in to what he has been saying though.

Well, before my visit to the dentist in 2019 I hadn’t actually been to see a dentist since I was little. Around 20 years ago.

I’ve been quite lucky with my teeth though, although I had a horrible junk food diet when I was little I didn’t actually have any cavities.

So I have no mercury in my gob :). Which is a good thing indeed.

I always wondered why they were called wisdom teeth but I have read before that the wisdom teeth are directly linked to your brain and really, you shouldn’t get them pulled.

In some ways I’m glad I was hesitant about my decaying wisdom tooth cos if I got that pulled I would probably be dumber than I am now (joking :D).

I believe that people are there own doctors and everything can be treated naturally.

Calcium obviously plays a big part with teeth and bones and I had read before that ground egg shells provide a lot of calcium and is probably the best way to get calcium too.

They tell you that calcium is good for teeth and bones and they also tell you to drink cow’s milk too. Well, if you drink cow’s milk that has come from, say ASDA, then I wouldn’t be surprised if that milk originally comes from factory farms... which is not exactly a good source for getting your calcium... unless you want other nasties with it too.

I think I would rather get my source of calcium through vegetables and nuts thanks.

I used to drink cow’s milk but stopped when I first tried out a latté in a vegan café. This had oat milk in it.

From then on I started buying my own oat milk, i think it is a lot more tastier.

Once I was low on oat milk and had to go back to cow’s milk for a day or 2 and the taste of the cow’s milk is so bland.
