Hi leopold . I am sure you are aware that it's necessary to lose those pounds to take the pressure off your knee and for your overall health.

You may feel that it's not worth walking if you can only go a short way but could you do several of those short walks in one day ? Anytime you are moving and not sitting or lying still you will be burning extra calories.

Swimming or aqua aerobics is non weight bearing on the knees and an ex Ellen form of exercise. There may be special women's only time at the pool if you are self concious.

Hand weights ? Creating muscle anywhere on your body can increase calorie burn so aiming to tone up your arms and shoulders will do the job. Every little helps.

As you lose weight through diet and that bit of extra activity the knee might feel less painful and you will be encouraged to do more.

Good luck

Dee

Weight loss is basically a matter of eating fewer calories that your body uses. That's simple to say, but not always easy to do, and people approach it differently, some cut down carbs some cut down fat but all approaches work for the same reason - that you are consuming less energy than your body expends.

The NHS weight loss site is a great source of info:

You don't say anything about your current diet - one thing you might like to start with is keeping a food log of what you eat over the next week or so

Being calorie dilute, the more you move towards eating fruit & plants and away from calorie-dense foods like meat will help you to lose weight in a sustainable way. I bet you cannot show me a person who eats a lot of fruit as a basis of their diet who is overweight. On the other hand every street has someone who is overweight and eats meat.

Also good to avoid unfermented soy which is sneaked into foods as a protein filler, & is detrimental to the health of quite a lot of people. I was 7kg heavier on half my current calorie intake as unfermented soy reduces thyroid hormone production & also cellular absorption.

Fermented soy is great for us, especially with regard to bone density. :)

Reposting this from a reply to someone else:

Do you know why you're overweight? Is it too much food, too little activity, an underlying health condition, or a combination of these factors?

There are a couple of approaches you could adopt, individually or together. One thing you'll definitely need to do, with weight loss or good health in mind, & that's to remove all processed food from your diet. Low fat chemical laden foods have the opposite effect. Don't be swayed by anything labelled as low fat or sugar free as the substitutes are more unhealthy than fat & sugar, We've been duped by food manufacturers for years into believing processed c**p is good for us, so try to make as much as your meals from scratch, & fill up on as many vegetables as you can. Avoid margarine, sunflower oil, anything containing white flour (or any foods containing gluten) if you can manage this. Avoid other processed foods such as burgers, sausages, bacon. Take a look at the diagrams below, with a view to what you should be eating. Drink more water. Avoid tea & coffee near meal times.

Try to forget calorie counting, & concentrate more on on counting the nutrition you need for your body to become healthier. Think what your body needs to function well rather than what you want.

There are different ways of eating. Some people lose weight by having a large high protein breakfast, a medium sized lunch, & a small supper, with no snacking inbetween,

Give intermittent fasting a try for a month to see if this helps. There are two types, one is the 5:2 way of eating, where a person eats normally for 5 days a week, & has two non-consecutive days eating up to 500 calories. I prefer the other type which is sticking to restrictive eating times, so I eat nothing but water after 7-8pm, then don't eat anything but water until late morning the next day. I eat a huge brunch & supper, & snack on fruit, nuts, & seeds during the afternoon. It took a few weeks to get used to, but it now seems normal to go without food for 14-16 hours a day & I feel healthier.

Add a good probiotic to your diet, as well as increasing your fibre intake from fresh fruit & vegetables to improve the important bacteria we have in our guts.

These posters can be printed & stuck to your fridge, &/or downloaded to your phone:

Increase your fiber which regulates blood sugar ...if your blood sugar is stable then your body will let go of weight easier...switch to all sugar free items...I would drink lemon water all day then for breakfast I would have a v-8 mix in some wheat grass and cracked pepper so it would be filling then take 2 fiber tablets...this helped me shed 20 pounds in 3 months with no exercise...of course I ate a sensible lunch and dinner. Fiber intake is crucial to fighting off hunger and keeping blood sugar steady. Also the lemon water helps cleanse the liver .
