Curried moong dal with raita πŸ₯’ and mango chutney 🌢

Hi folks, I think it's interesting how topical some foods have become now its colder and after reading BadHares article on chillies I knew it was time for some hot comfort food. I also read a really interesting article about Saliah (the lady who won Masterchef) and she gave some recipes one was for raita a side dish made with plain yoghurt and grated cucumber and I've never tried it like that before. And her recipe for mango chutney and I've never made that before and it is really easy.

I make my own curry mix as I keep coriander, turmeric, cumin, ginger and paprika anyway, I also like adding chillies and peppers🌢 to a curry. And I added chia seeds to the rice, for good measure...😊

Raita

Grated cucumber

Live yoghurt

Chilli rings (Its supposed to have cumin seeds but I didn't have any)

grate the cucumber into a dish and cover with live yoghurt and add chilli rings.

For the mango chutney:

1 desert spoon brown sugar

1 med mango

Grated chilli (you can use chilli flakes)

1/2 tea spoon ginger powder

Squeeze of lemon,

This is the best bit, you gently melt the sugar so it caramelises and then remove from heat and add the mango, grated chilli and spice and leave to gently cook so it all gradually caramelises.

So thats what I had for tea and if anyone would like to share what they had then please do 😊

This looks delicious Hidden - really good! A Banquet full of amazing flavours. :-)

I have had Cajun spiced chicken tonight, with my usual tray of assorted roasted veggies. It was very nice.

I hope you have a lovely evening, and here's to a great weekend! :-)

That looks great, Jerry!

I've never made my own mango chutney. Must try it! :)

It would be likely that a mango wouldn't get as far as a pan to cook. I'd have to buy three. ;)

I had orange chutney in an Italian restaurant a few years ago. I tried to reproduce it several times, but couldn't get mine to be as orangey, though all versions were tasty on a cheese toastie.

Please check your private messages. It’s okay.

Thank you champak, I bought the moong dal from an Asian shop and only made some chutney/pickle after your reply on the tomato post about making tomato chutney. It was so easy too and I enjoyed it.

Raita should use mint and I didn't have any and I meant to use coriander leaves but had been looking at masala dahi so mine was a combination.

That looks delicious Jerry, I also love spices.

I have my slow cooker on at the moment, first time I have used it as only purchased it recently, and I have parsnips, carrots (lots of carrots as I love them:)), a couple of potatoes, a leek, garlic, lentils (lots), paprika, some hot spicy mix I've had in the cupboard for a while now and red chilies. I am so looking forward to eating this tonight.

Happy cooking :)

Alicia

Thank you Alicia, your meal sounds really good to me with my favourite veggies and slow cooking food is great for flavour, so a good purchase as you're not rushing around preparing food, so good for you and I'm sure that you'll enjoy it.

Cheers,

Jerry 😊

It's smelling lovely in the kitchen now and there is no steam in the kitchen from cooking it in a saucepan - result!

Have a good evening.

Alicia :)
