Hopefully you have had this properly diagnosed, if so you will be prescribed a proton pump inhibitor like Omeprazole. I hardly have any problem since going on a vegan no oil diet, see ref Dr Esselstyne
There's no specific diet as heartburn triggers vary between individuals, but a food diary can help you pinpoint the foods that make your symptoms worse so you can tweak your own diet. General advise is to avoid large volume meals, lying down after eating and tight clothing round the abdomen all of which can exacerbate reflux. Hope you feel better soon.
Some good advice here gabybede49. You should see a doctor if you are having persistent problems with your bowels. There is a bowel screening programme if you are over 40yrs old. With regards to diet most people find it beneficial to avoid spicy foods, caffeine drinks, high carb and fatty meals such as bread - this can increase acid release from the gut. It's improtant to rule out H. pylori infection - this is the bug that causes stomach ulcers. Less common is SIBO - small bowel bacterial overgrowth which can cause similar problems. Another differential is IBS irritable bowel syndrome - less likely to cause acid reflux problems but often causes diarrh/constipation, bloating and cramps.
Hope this helps and get well soon
I have a heaped teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda dissolved in a small glass of milk - negates the acid...xx
I suffer with this very rarely and have discovered that it is when we eat with friends whom we know use polyunsaturated oils and spreads in their cooking. It happens every time never with butter or food cooked with or in animal fats. These polyunsaturated fats are not natural food for man; the trouble is one often has to be polite when with friends. Just a thought. Tibbly
I used to have BIG problems with reflux - used to eat anti-acid tablets like they were sweeties - then I lost weight and stomach fat and stopped drinking wine at night and all my problems have gone away.
Have you had your thyroid levels tested. Reflux and gut problems are symptoms of hypothyroidism.
Please dont take proton pump inhibitor like Omeprazole, they only make the problem worse and stop the absorption of vitamins and minerals.
Imodium is very good, and you can buy this from the chemist. If it doesn't work see your Gp as you might have a Stomach Hernia.
Get tested for underlying issues first
Cutting a lot from your diet can make things worse. The old fashioned edict everything in moderation comes into play. Generally probiotic should assist and avoid excessively hot or cold foods and liquids.
Grazing rather than large meals should also benefit
