I love green tea, preferably iced. There is a green tea with jasmine that is the most refreshing drink.

Diet coke is poisonous, as is the stuff with sugar in!

Try adding a slice of fruit to your water, It might be boring, but it won;t kill you.

Diet coke is addictive but extremely bad for you. It makes you crave that sweet taste more and more. It will not be easy giving it up but I congratulate you in wanting to try.

The only way to stop is just to give it up. You can't just have it sometimes as a treat otherwise your tastebuds continue to crave that taste.

Fizzy water with a drop of orange juice ( a drop not half a glass) might work while you are adjusting.

Check out which sweeteners are in diet coke and make sure you are not getting them in other things .

Best of luck. You are doing the right thing.

Thank you I will defo try the fizzy water with drop of juice. I have been addicted before and happen to suffer from severe depression I know diet coke doesn't help just so hard to give up. X

Have you had your blood tested for lack of things like vitamn B12 & D3, & magnesium?

I love sugar, so get it from fruit, not junk. I have the occasional binge on something unhealthy, if I go out, but generally stick to clean food, ie, I nothing processed. It helps both my mental & physical health.

Also try some good probiotics. Might help with the depression, & you won't be craving C**p so much. There's a current belief, & research being done regarding gut bacteria affecting what people crave. If you eat well, your digestive system can create the right hormones, etc, in your body, & absorb nutrients better.

Better to count nutrients than calories.

What about sparking water with a fresh lime squeezed into it? It's delicious..with some ice.

Flavoured fizzy water is still really sugary a lot of the time. How about soda and lime?

I'm not really bothered if it's somthing fizzy just something different to plain water something I can enjoy. X

Artificial sweetener?

I'll eat something containing xylitol. The other sugar substitutes are toxic, & worse than sugar.

Hi Rebecca, I like plain water when it comes from a bottle, but where I live there is quite a chlorine tang to the tap water which puts me off. I add a little fruit juice just to make it taste better, diluted approx 1 part juice to 7 parts water, so not too sugary. Over the course of a day i probably drink the equivalent of one small glass of juice, but it's so dilute it doesn't cause blood sugar spikes. You can also try a squeeze of lemon or lime. ☀️

Yes I'm the same I buy bottled water because the tap water tastes very different. Think I'll try the water with little lemon or lime thanks for your advice x

Coconut water?

BadHare profile image
BadHare in reply toDukesMam

Nice & healthy, but rather expensive!

Rebecca1126 profile image
Rebecca1126 in reply toDukesMam

Is it strong tasting? I like coconut... Is it what comes in the middle of the coconut?

BadHare profile image
BadHare in reply toRebecca1126

Not at all. Some types don't taste very coconutty at all. I rarely buy it due to the cost.

I drink a few litres of weak green or white tea, & add a slice of lemon to the first pot of the day. Sometimes I add dried flower petals, or herbs like mint, which make it sweeter, when I want it cold.

I have a few food & drinks that I only allow myself if I'm out, so I have something a bit "naughty" as a treat. :)

I managed to completely kick diet coke a few years back, and now have it rarely as a mixer on a night out. I just went cold turkey and drank nothing but tap water and fizzy water for a few weeks - your head hurts for a couple of days, but that's a caffeine withdrawal thing.

If you need something to replace texture, sparkling water is good. A few drops of lemon can add flavour, you could also keep lemon/lime wedges in the freezer for sparkling water. Sugar free sparkling water is OK, but usually uses aspartame, which is the sweetener used in diet coke, so it's just transferring the craving.

If you don't like the taste of tap water, a water filter can make a real difference!

Thanks. Think Putting lemon and lime in the freezer sounds good might try that.

Buy a juicer and juice fruit and vegetables. You will feel amazing after a few days and won't miss the coke .

Caffeine is something most of us use every day but how many of us know its one of the most dangerous drugs known

michaelshouse.com/drug-addi...

Have a look at these links its an eye opener for anyone who is drinking too much of it, it could be the reason some of us are struggling with mood swings which i never even considered

I used to drink so much diet coke in one day and I decided to stop and just have it as a treat instead. I went onto fizzy water for a few weeks and now I am happy just drinking normal water. It sound silly but I can only imagine that giving up drinking diet coke is like giving up smoking.

Try adding slices of lemon, lime and cucumber to your water in a jug and keep in the fridge. It is very refreshing. I have also added some fresh mint.

I know a number of the posts demonized diet coke, but I drink a can of coke zero/Pepsi max 3-4 times a week and don't have any issue with it. There is no scientific basis that has proved it to be harmful. The reason people don't suggest it for weight loss is that some people find it makes them crave sugar more. I personally never get a craving and instead use it as a pick-me-up.

But alternatives I go for when wanting other than water are sugar free squash. Sainsbury do a great range (Cherries and Berries!) and these are endorsed by gov as healthier than sugar options.

Venusflytrap profile image

I'm with Yellow on this. There are loads of low sugar squashes out there, which would at least help you off the caffeine if you view that as an aim. I dilute them much more than the manufacturer suggests. I don't have a sweet tooth, so sometimes get totally sick of Diet Coke. I learned to drink it very iced so that it doesn't taste too sweet. And the melting ice dilutes it. Like you, water rarely tastes right to me, but chilling it by keeping a jug in the fridge with your favourite herb and/or fruit added, does change the taste. When out I always try to have any other diet options like tonic, ginger ale, bitter lemon, soda and squash, etc, if they are on offer. Anything to get away from Diet Coke. At home I have a large selection of other low diet fizz. But only maybe a glass a day. I think variety is the answer here.

I like apple and elderflower presse and similar stuff - they are not low in calories, though. Have you tried flavoured waters or tonics?
