It can be very difficult!

Portion control, get a smaller dish and a smaller plate, this can help to control food intake. with nuts, count and take 5 at a time, no more than 10 in one go.

When you feel hungry drink water to fill the stomach, this can help as well.

Eat plenty of green leafy veg.

Hi SuneEramus,

Posting on here was my first step to real change so well done acknowledging that you need some support. It's all psychological with overeating so it will feel like a battle of wills at times but I am one month in and have succeeded. I've lost a stone since the 1st April and have done this by controlling the amount that I eat. I've never eaten really badly but have always eaten too much and too often. I have found that my emotions control this side of my eating and this week alone I have really wanted to stuff my face at least 3 times but I waited, thought about it, used my app to look at my achievements so far, drank a glass of water and did something else... For me this has worked. I wouldn't say the urges will ever go away but you can learn to fight it. Don't buy anything in that will cause temptation, have healthy snacks available with texture (I like to nibble on bran flakes) and have a list of little tasks you can occupy yourself with when you feel like you want to binge (squats are my favourite, some uplifting music on loud, or a nice bath). Good luck I hope this helps x

Hello, agree with above post, overeating is often rooted in psychological/emotional reasons, I know I gained my weight from eating junk when stressed. also the sugar rush/ insulin rush from eating highly processed carbs which people tend to do when they overeat causes a physical hunger/ craving roller coaster which adds to the problem. For me it's all about coping with stress and fatigue but for some people the psychological issues are much more deep rooted and it's hard to stick to any diet or healthy eating plan unless you can find a healthier way of dealing /coping with what lead you to eat badly in the first place. While there is a lot of advice out there on weight loss and healthy eating there is very little psychological support for tackling underlying issues unless you can afford a private therapist. There is some useful info on the beat website which is a charity for eating disorders and I think they are running some support programmes with online groups. Might be worth checking out. X
