Do you take vitamins?: - Healthy Eating
Do you take vitamins?
I take B12 because I am vegetarian so that is the only nutrient I am not able to get from vegetable sources. Some people say that certain vegetables can make your intestine produce B12, but that is really not scientifically proven! Be aware!
I don't take any other vitamins because I think my diet is varied and healthy enough to offer me everything else. I also believe that the way vitamins and other nutrients are presented inside foods can never be replaced by pills (things are not that simple).
I used to take multivitamins but that ended up being a mental 'excuse' not to chose nutrient dense foods! Now that I don't, I tend to put more effort on eating better...
Thats a very interesting last point you make! never thought of it that way
I like some variety with my vitamins, so some days I take B-complex, some days a multivitamin and others nothing at all.
I try to eat foods that are rich in vitamins like spinach!
I use an app called 'My Fitness Pal' to record what I eat, essential for me as I have health problems that mean I have to follow a low fat diet and watch my salt intake (and I have to lose weight - doctors orders). At the end of the day the app also calculates the nutritional content of the food eaten and it showed I was getting less than 20% of the calcium I need and my diet is also deficient in several vitamins so I take a multi vitamin every day and up to 2 calcium tablets. (I rarely eat dairy products just a drop of milk in my coffee).
I like to get as many nutrients from fresh fruits and vegetables, proteins and grain. I do take vitamin D3 mainly through the winter months as I have in the past been diagnosed as vitamin D deficient, I find taking the supplement D3 helps keep levels up.
I sometimes take a multivitamin, calcium and magnesium but I am a take as I feel I need sort of person in that respect, during the winter first sign of a cold I take a product called sambucol, its concentrated elderberry juice, its packed with antioxidant and vitamin C, if I act quickly I can stave off a cold with this product. Its expensive but well worth it I think.
I take multivitamins, cold liver oil with omega fish oil, echinacea to keep bugs away. I do try to eat good food. Strictly no rubbish - husband is on chemo - diet has to be nutritious. But I have a small appetite, breakfast is my favourite meals.
I am taking note of sambucol as mentioned above.
How long do you need to take vitamins for, before you notice an effect? Thinking of B12 as it is supposed to be good for combating tiredness.
