I wish you a lovely day, Daylight!
I know this sounds sick but I really really enjoyed my quiet days at home both on christmas eve and Christmas day and feel they were well deserved!
Today it's boxing day lunch out at the pub which is something nice to look forward to and after the pub watching some rubbish TV!
Whilst I stayed in those days I saved myself some money and it was also an exercise in experiencing being housebound like the chronically ill who have no other options and having empathy for them!
Monday morning I went for my usual swim but didn't buy any food out which was of help financially as I find small expenses like that soon mount up over the month and came home early for lunch as well which was helpful in saving buying lunch out!
That's the meaning of Christmas is thinking of those less fortunate than yourself and putting yourself in their position and seeing things from their point of view which I find changes your reaction to things!
It's great that you enjoyed your solitude, sometimes it's what we need. Yes the true message of Christmas can get drowned out by the pressure from retailers to buy more and more stuff, it's good to remember those less fortunate at this time of goodwill to all. Thanks for reminding us of this
It is important to remember that there are people of different religious beliefs and nonbelievers as well on HU. Iโm Jewish and only celebrate Chanukah. In Judaism, we have the practice of Tzedaka - giving of charity to those less fortunate and performing Mitzvot - good deeds. There is a need on HU to recognize that all kinds of people come on this site.
Happy Christmas to you. But please remember that are R a number of people on HU who R not Christian and donโt celebrate Christmas. Iโm Jewish. I only celebrate Chanukah ๐. There R also nonbelievers who donโt celebrate anything at all. Inclusiveness and tolerance of all kind of people is very important.
Hi Shnookie, there was absolutely no assumption that Christmas is a universal celebration. My wishes were for those choosing to celebrate the turning of the year with or without a religious element. Here in the UK, many people with no religious affiliation celebrate Christmas as a time for gathering together and recognising the people they hold dear.My message was also in recognition that not everyone celebrates and that the Christmas period, here in the UK, is long. Many services that people rely on for social contact are closed until January 2nd and routines are interrupted which some find difficult.
I understand your intent but words are powerful. How about Seasons Greetins, Happy Holiday especially on a forum like HU which have people from so many backgrounds. Being Jewish, growing up in the U.S. , I didnโt see Chanukah ๐ Menorahs when I was a kid growing up outside of my house. Iโm sorry that your Social services are cut off for a long period of time wishing you a happy new year.
