New here. Looking to build community and connections

Hello. New member here. Looking to connect with others who are learning to release old traumas, unwind their anxious patterns, develop greater serenity, improve communication with self and others, and learn to love self and others bravely and wisely. I am grateful for my lifelong journey of recovery, discovery and learning - and I realize now there is not a "destination" and that walking this journey IS my destination. It's easier walking with others and I believe that together we can do what we could never do alone. Grateful member of, and sponsor in, several 12-step programs. Looking for other mutual support group models in which to connect with fellow travelers. Wishing you all so much peace. (he/him/his. BLM. TLM. Portland, Maine, USA)

Hi there and welcome. I can't write a proper post right now, but I just wanted to connect. Will get back to you later. 🙂🌸

Thank you for sharing and welcome to the community, AwakeningEmpath.

Hi Awakening,

Welcome! I am fairly new here as well. People have been so very welcoming. I am on a similar journey as you, however I've only recently been diagnosed with PTSD. I do believe I knew this already, if even deep down . Past traumas need to be addressed (resolved ?) I was hoping these past traumas would disappear, somehow, with age. It doesn't work that way. :)

Hi robbie2499,

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, it would be nice if past traumas would just disappear with aging! ;-) Alas, not. I'm curious to explore this forum. Always happy to connect with others who are actively engaged in recovery, healing, learning and growing. Never too old for that. My therapist recommended that I read up on "Complex PTSD" and it's been very helpful. Likewise, my work in yoga and meditation have really helped me find and release the ways trauma "lives" in my body.

Hello! I just joined not too long ago too. The support has been great and I’ve learned so much, but I do wish to have a consistent support group to check in with once a week.

Should we just save this post and come back once a week at a certain day and time to talk and listen to each other? Or form a group chat?

Hi, I'm new enough to this platform that I do not yet understand all the features for connecting with other people. Is it possible to "meet" virtually through this app or do you set up calls, WhatsApp group chats, or Zoom meetings when you want to connect with others? I'm in the United States, Eastern Daylight Time (UTC−04:00)

Hi AwakeningEmpath,

We don't usually use Zoom or other similar ways to connect to protect privacy.

Most members join anonymously and we just support each other on here as the HU platform offers safety and there are moderators/administrators.

Going off HU means we can't guarantee those things.

Some of our members have stalkers so they need to protect themselves by not using their real name and any identifiable information when they sign up for anything.

Posting here and connecting with other survivors, sharing about how you are feeling and what's going on in your recovery can have a lasting impact as it can be a resource for new members who join in hope of getting support.

Lastly, our membership is worldwide so there is only very little overlapping time when everyone could join. Being in Australia, I had to get up at 2 - 3 am for Zoom sessions. But it has advantages, there is usually someone around as the earth never sleeps :-)

I agree with Nathalie. I think that if we consistently check in with each other through this platform, it will feel like a real support group.
