Nightmares...

So I have been having nightmares a lot lately. I always kind of have but lately, they have been picking up in frequency. Not really sure what to do. They are mostly people trying to kill me although last nights were a little different. In the dream, I woke up to a loud bang which I thought was my mom in the house. I went to investigate and found a man dressed in total black in the house with my cat jumping all over him like a dog. I reached to push the cat away which I successfully did and reached to shove the man down the basement stairs. Only as I did, the man also reached out and the dream was over. I woke up in total panic and rolled over to find my cat was not laying in his bed(his bed is in my bed) next to me. I went to find him and to my surprise he was looking at me when I walked into the living room. I don't know what to do. Every damn night I am struggling in dreams with people I don't know trying to kill me. Usually, these dreams don't happen so often but it is enough for me now to take notice. Starting to scare me.

I had the same problem; it's just the brain working things out. I interviewed an expert about what to do -- take a listen here to his answer:

I'm in a similar situation, but my Nightmares vary from one of my Ex's trying to kill me, to having nightmares about 9/11, the 2004 Tsunami, pretty much every bad experience I saw or had as a kid. Right now, it's so bad, I can't sleep. My panic attacks have gotten to the point of causing Seizures - all my muscles tense, & my whole body shakes. It's gotten to the point where I'm scared to sleep at all. I stay awake for as long as I can - sometimes up to 4 days at a time. Then I basically pass out. The only time I can REALLY Sleep is when I spend a night at a friend's place. I know I need SERIOUS Therapy, but I've been fighting to get it for over two years. I can't fight anymore. At least not on my own.

I too had those nightmares for 3 years. Until my doctor treated me with a blood pressure pill called Prazosin. It's been used for many many years to treat ptsd for our military.

Ironically I don't have high blood pressure but the pill worked from day 1. I was amazed. No more nightmares or panic attacks or waking up scared.

Check with your physician.

Hope this helps.

Nightmares are awful and I will listen to Michele's blog after this post. Mine usually have me standing over someone with a knife in my hand about to plunge it into the victim! This is linked to a memory when that was what I was about to do.

But other times I have a knife in my hand wandering around the house checking every cupboard out for intruders. Then I wake up.

Yes, I will listen too. I have also been plunging into essential oils and that seems to be helping with my problem. Not willing to try meds anymore. They don't work anyways.
