Throughlines can be so powerful in healing as they help you reconnect to important and valued parts of yourself. Once you discover a throughline (baseball is a great one!) the next step is finding ways to interact with that experience. Where to start? Some ideas:

1 - join a league

2 - become an umpire

3 - coach a team

4 - go to watch games played by your local team or community programs

5 - watch games on tv

6 - read books about baseball

7 - watch baseball videos

8 - identify what made you feel safe at the ball park; how can you recreate that experience today

9 - get a group of friends together to hit/catch some balls or play a full game

10 - free write about why you loved the diamond so much; explore what it meant to you; identify how you can access that experience in new ways today

These are just suggestions, of course! You choose or create options that work for you, but you get the gist of the throughline idea. (There's more about this sort of reconnection process in my book, "Your Life After Trauma.")

Yes, I didn't know what you meant until I read the article. Animals and digging in the dirt, gardening, painting.........

So why is baseball diamond a safe place for you?

Animals, because they are there FOR me. I care for them, they just exist and that gives me pleasure. They are soft and warm. I am not afraid of them. They accompany me when I go for a walk.
