I had brain injury 4-5 years ago now I was wondering if it effected the immune system long term as I seem to catch a cold/flue very often and they are really bad.

I can’t really remember if it was the same before accident tbh

Hi Pab.

Don't know if there is a link but since my bi I always get a cold and the the last few years pneumonia.

Have asked consultant and was told probably not but maybe....confused...I was.

I have the annual flu jab and had booster " Just in case".

Never had a lot of colds pre bi, but then again I am older.

My gp did say because of my low hormone levels ( due to bi) my immune system may be affected.

Not much help to you but maybe others can help.

Pax

I don't know if this is relevant but if you're stressed it adversely effects your immune system, so this may be the indirect effect, due to a TBI making your life stressful.

A Google search and you'll find lots of info about stress and the immune system.

If a bug is doing the rounds I take echinacea, it's been shown to boost the immune system and I can't remember my last cold.

I think cold and flu have been particularly bad this year and not many haven’t been affected by it. Not only that the strain seems to go and come back and then go so it goes on for a lot longer. Lots of tlc, eating well, vitamin c with small glass of fresh orange, exercise regularly and try and get your immune system strong again. Echinacea is also good during winter months. You can get the drops which you drink in water every morning. Start in October and do for six months over winter. It’s a natural herbal plant that is said to boost immune system.
