Post neurological / craniotomy immune system is not the same

I am hoping someone else can relate to what I am thinking and hopefully provide some insight.

Since a long craniotomy operation 3 years ago which was to fenestrate a cyst which was squashing my optic nerve I have noticed that I catch more colds despite a healthy lifestyle and supplements and the two times I have had flu since the operation, including a recent one ( not Corona) I have suffered headaches like I never had before in my life, they are so painful I went to the hospital the last time but within 24 hours the intense pain was gone with no treatment.

My gut feeling is that my immune system has changed and works differently ever since my head was operated on.

Another not good experience this year was after having the pneuma vaccine I had chills and headaches for a couple of days every week for nearly 6 weeks.

If anyone else has noticed a similar change in being able to fight viruses and headaches I would be happier knowing that it's not just me.

Hi Mazvol

I was going to ask the same thing, I'm only 4 months post op I had a craniotomy on the front left lobe to remove a grade 1 tumor, everything has been fine and I felt 100% up to 3 days ago when I got a terrible headache that just won't go away, I'm just wondering if this is the norm?

Sorry I can't answer your question,

But hopefully someone will see these posts and be able to enlighten us.

Any headache lasting more than a few hours I would say is not normal, unless you used to get them the same pre- operation. I would recommend getting it checked out at your local hospital. The times I have had really bad ones I have always gone to the local emergency department and had a CT scan just in case it's a slow bleed , better safe than sorry

The plan I have agreed to with my Consultant is to keep a supply of suitable prescription painkillers at home for the rare occasions these headaches happen, if these don't reduce the pain quickly then you know that you have a bigger problem is part of the thinking

Hi hopefully this will help.

I had Encephalitis 8 years ago and ever since have suffered from “wipe out” episodes that they think are migrainous in origin. As you say pver the counter medication doesnt touch it, im just grateful i never had pain with it, hust an inability to function for anything up to a week.

I say had b cause my eonderful neuro rehab consultant jnew what i was a alking about where my GP was clueless.

I am prescribed Pregabalin and it has changed my life around.

I have been taking it for around 2 years now and i have a much better quality of love fe now.

And as for the immune system im sure that that is true I have had 2 hospital stays with viruses since my illness which i am sure i would have shrugged off before.

By the way the hospital could not be sure but suspected that the he flu jab triggered my Encephalitis.

Seek help with the headaches its out there. I asked to ve referred back to the neuro rehab consultant.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, I am wary of immunisation jabs after one nearly killed my mum and a friend developed an aggressive strain of MS after a Hepatitis vaccine and died 3 years later.

I've no doubt your encephalitis was caused by the flu jab. My sah occurred a week after receiving mine and I've always had a deep suspicion of vaccines. I researched a medical website once (?American) that mentioned there is a connection between inflammatory brain vessel reactions and vaccines. Two friends in the village here got whammed with longterm CFS/ME afterwards. We three had our flu jabs all in the same week from the same surgery! God knows what they put in to them apart from the lethal mercury!
