High Bilirubin on first blood test.

I’m new here, perhaps worrying too much at this stage.

I had some reflux from stomach and a few days of itching, l had abdomen exam, sent for endoscopy which suggested mild reflux and put on Omeprazole for two weeks.

Also blood test which came back with high Bilirubin levels, I have been asked to have another test 4 weeks after first.

I have felt tired and hard to get motivated for years, and only leap into action when it is the last minute to do things, or somebody demanding me to do anything.

Not sure, I was told to book another blood test by receptionist, and when I turned up they said they could not do it as it had to be 4 weeks after first, not 2 weeks.

I asked the nurse why I needed retest she said my “bilirubin was all over the place, whatever that is”

I presume she only takes blood, but it did not inspire confidence.

I would be surprised if they didnt do other liver tests at the time, unusual just to test bilirubin on its own. Dont panic ,get the other test and make appointment with gp to discuss. X

Hi Klonk

Try not to worry, but its always good to get things checked out. High bilirubin, fatigue and itching might indicate a liver issue so make sure they run liver function tests and ask for the results. Let us know how you get on. Good luck. Diane

Close friends and family seem to think I have got lazy over the past year or so, but I never seem to wake up refreshed.

Have had about three episodes of itching in last year and given anti hist.

Had retina detachment last year too, but not sure if related.

Blood test is on 24th Jan,

Hi,

Had blood test today, Liver and Bone,Urea and electrolytes, I asked receptionist and they gave me a print out from 19 Dec 2019

The ones with exclamations were

Serum total bilirubin 26 umo/L

Serum creatinine 112 umo/L

GFR calculated abbreviated MDRD 57

There was also Monoyte Count 0.65 on FBC, which was not repeated

I was told not to worry if I was not contacted by 28th Jan about my blood results, as they would only contact me if there was a problem, the nurse who took them said. But by the afternoon I thought I would phone to inquire anyway.

I was told the GP had put me on his list of patients who needed a call back. I expected them to say I would be receiving a call shortly, but it seems I had to make an appointment for the call.

I was surprised that it was for 10th Feb, I thought abnormal results would warrant more prompt action, in the past I used to get letters to inform me about such things.

I presume the wait suggests I have nothing serious to worry about.

I might call by and ask the receptionist for print out again anyway.

I got a printout today for 24th Jan results

Serum total bilirubin 26—————I understand should be under 21 umo/

Serum calcium 2.18————I understand it should be between 2.20 to 2.60mmol/L

Serum creatinine 109————I understand it should be between 64 - 104 umol/L

GFR MDRD 59 I understand it should be >60ml/min/173m^2

Gp requested Albumin-to-Creatinine Ratio urine test on 7th Feb. He Seemed more concerned about Bilirubin levels.

Brought sample in today, 10th Feb
