I was diagnosed Coeilac with DH around 13 yrs ago. I'm Dairy intolerant and suffer IBS so have a really limited FODMAP diet.(fruit and veg being triggers) I'm also Type 1 diabetic on insulin pump. I see a diabetic consultant and have a dietician for IBS. I take multi vitamins and seperate, Vit B , iron and calcium by choice... should I been seen by anyone for my Coeliac, should I routinely be checked ?
Don't have any doctor for Coeliac - s... - Gluten Free Guerr...
Don't have any doctor for Coeliac - should I be having regular checks or not?....coeliac 10 + yrs now.
Hi
Gosh, you have a complicated history!
My thought about whether you should see someone about coeliac is an emphatic YES. There needs to be some monitoring of things like bone density, possibly the state of your bowel, your blood levels etc. Do go and see your GP and get referred on.
Good luck.
I have given up with seeing Gastroenterologist when I had problems with the GF diet, I got referred to a Professor who carried out tests only to confirm Coeliac Disease since 1955 and again 2007 (45 year break) no one dealt with why I had problems with the GF diet until 2013 when it was found an ingredient in the diet was triggering an acquired allergy. I have found that the diagnosed IBS is infact a reaction to dairy so that is illuminated. Certain fruits and vegetables trigger my allergy so again eliminated but you move on find what suits and improve, all down to your self.
Thanks for this..have you done the FODMAP diet and reintroduction of food groups to narrow down your IBS trigger even more..... Didn't realise you can do break in Coeliac....may try a real breadcrumb later!!! he he he
Hi jnbina, I tried the FODMAPS and no improvement, my IBS is dairy triggered. I have questioned the 45 year break myself. I went onto normal foods in 1962 and until seeing the Gastro March 31st 2007 when I started eliminating anything from a gluten source. I have yet to have this explained to me and even the Professor could not answer the question.
Jbina, Sounds funny but the real crime is that in the 1950s mothers were told their children would grow out of CD, so after following the diet and becoming well, they stopped. These adults, diagnosed again after a lifetime of illness are now some of the ones with refractory coeliac disease. Sweden currently cite these people in their clinical trials.
Ah I see .....bloods are done for Diabetic and DH Skin problem (taking Dapsone and bloods done annually)...these go to Skin specialist. Bowel not taken care of to date, but have appointment to see Gastro Consultant for IBS. So really I'm just missing the bone density monitoring.
Yes you should have a routine check up and tests, though this might just be at GP who would then refer you elsewhere if anything was revealed at said check up. Go to NICE guidelines to see your entitlement; just about to do same as my GP has said nothing further to be done 'you're on your own now' ! I guess your diabetic consultant and IBS dietician know about all your 'probs' and hopefully they will know how they all might impact with each other ( badly put; hope you get what I mean)
I am having my first hospital check up next month, and this is first since last May. I feel ok, but just fed up lately at not being able to eaty what I want, but it will pass. I have never had symptoms, and was only found out when I had blood test after a fall, which ended with a broken arm. They said osteoporosis and weight loss were my symptoms, so will have chat with them next month
