My husband ,73, was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2015 and had tumour removed followed by one course of BCG. He reacted badly to BCG and hasn't had any more but has quarterly cystoscopy. Fortunately, he is well and has had no more tumours. He keeps disposable catheters for occasional use but is aware of infection risks. He has used cranberry juice to prevent infections and takes multi vitamins. As Christians we have been grateful for prayers for healing. We realise that David is very fortunate after reading stories on this site about more serious problems with bladder cancer.

i am 71 now as of november 6. I had 2 BC surgeries in 2012 and many BCG infusions ( 24 so far ). After the first BCG felt a bit flu like but after that all the others were business as usual. Mind you, after each one you are stuck at home for rest of the day. The first urination after BCG after 2 hours is like urinating razor blades but it passes. After each bladder inspection, the Dr said it looked great. There was a lot of cancer tumors to remove but none went thru the muscle wall. If there are many tumors, the BCG schedule is longer. Was cathed after each surgery but that was all. Would love to know just what problems he had with the BCG.

Glad you are surviving too. After BCG David had fever,urine retention, and hospitalised for 5 days...terrible pain. Everyone seems to respond in different ways. He only had one tumour.😊

had he ever tried Mitomycin as an option?

No but if tumours return he will have a rethink....not keen on any procedures unless absolutely necessary!😗

I've had surgery on right kidney to remove tumour two years ago, I've had a lot of pain since. Been treated as if it was an infection but not resolved. Tried a cystoscopy under local anaesthetic but couldn't enter more than couple of inches so was abandoned. Two years later I get an appointment for a cystoscopy under general anaesthetic, so far this has worked I was sent home with a catheter bag for ten days, three weeks later it was sorted and to my surprise I was told that I had to catheterise myself. Wow I didn't expect that I am slowly getting used to it, I don't like having to do it, it doesn't really hurt but it is quite uncomfortable on the plus side I was retaining over two litres so catheterisation does help to empty out.
