BCG problems.

I'm new here but my husband (72) was diagnosed with bladder cancer in Oct 2015. Had tumour removed and first BCG end Dec. Had very bad reaction and side effects which put him in hospital for a week, using catheters etc.. He was offered another BCG this week but decided to wait as no cancer found after March check up. He is well now but very tired. Wondering whether others had bad reactions to BCG??

I also had BCG. I couldn't keep it In for more than 20 minutes in total each time, It was like acid burning my bladder! Terrible pain.

Hmmm.....I just completed my first BCG treatment 2 hours ago today!  Too early to tell if I experience any problems but I hope not.  I ended up in hospital for 3 days following my February cystoscopy requiring manual bladder flushes to remove excessive clotting.  Not fun I must say!  Tough enough having to deal with this at age 44 let alone being 72.  Good luck and I hope it stays away for good.  Julian

Thanks. Most people seem to cope with treatment fortunately. We are all different...Hope you stay well.

Yes, I did. Was told only 1 in 125,000 would have any. I stopped the treatment and have been cancer free for 7 years. I'm not saying for him to stop, just saying what happened with me.

the first few times were fine then after another cystoscopy the bcg was given and then when he went home ,was in agony.subsequently .the time after that could only stand the treatment for a few seconds before the agony again.so he has had all the treatments he can stand but should of had 5 more.his consultant is just watching him closely with 3 monthly flexi cystoscopys done in the endoscopy dept.all clear up to now 4 years on.he dreads them as he usually gets an infection soon after ,but we are prepared.cranberry juice loads of water and a packet of cymalon for good measure.good luck

Thanks for that info. Yes infections have been a problem so David drinks cranberry etc and avoids catheters unless absolutely necessary. But better than side effects from first BCG! Hope all stays well.
