Started Xtandi Today after Taxotere Finished.

Three weeks ago I had my last of 6 sessions (every 3 weeks) of Taxotere and monthly Lupron shots. Post RP PSA was 63 and now after chemo undetectable. Got back Ct scans and no Mets to chest, abdomen or pelvic area. One enlarged node shrank.

Staying on Lupron and starting Xtandi. I’m taking it before bed. Any advice? The lupron seems to really give me fatigue, although by number 6 chemo I was pretty shagged.

Keep fighting.

Greetings MrCatMan,

Welcome to the forum...I reviewed your profile and you have been through the wringer..... Breast cancer, bladder cancer, neuroendocrine tumors in the stomach... Talk about survivor...incredible....

Advice....well....you are taking Xtandi at night....good choice as it is reported to cause fatigue for many who are on it... I can offer you some good news-- your undetectable PSA helps insure your progression free survival time in these studies...:

You are having a great response from chemo, ADT and Xtandi. I read that your genetic tests were negative for mutations which may help Xtandi to last longer...

You also showed no bone mets on CT scan... Was it a PET/CT with one of the new radiopharmaceutical agents like Ga68 PSMA or Axumin?? Standard CT scans are not the best for finding bone mets and I was negative on CT and bone scan until doing an Axumin scan, so that is why I ask...

Other advice... cutting back on red meat, eating more chicken and fish may help...regular exercise and losing weight....statin drugs seem to help survival...

I would advise you to go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and get their free guide delivered to you... It is jam packed with solid info:

I had fatigue related to difficulty sleeping when I started, so consider some meditation/ relaxation a half hour before bed...I take Melatonin also which helps but I am not sure about taking it with Xtandi, so check with your Pharmacist and of course...

Keep fighting....

I'm taking it with Xtandi with no problems... My body will only stand 80mg dosage, so don't let drs tell you 160 mg dose is all there is. Best of luck on the new meds...

Hi Don,

Thanks for all the links and I did sign up for the PDF to be emailed to me.

Those studies are slow reading for me as I was a lit teacher so numbers can be a struggle... ha.

No PSMA just CT w/ contrast. I don't believe that machine is here yet but I'll ask.

I did sleep pretty good last night but very dry mouth this morning so I'll drink more water before bed. I assume the Xtandi accumulates in the system as I move forward.

Mr CM,

The take home message can be found in the conclusion on these articles, but I'll tell you....an undetectable PSA (lowest number =nadir) is indicative of increased survivability with PCa. In the meantime.....keep on keepin' on... Doing great... Radiopharmaceuticals like Axumin and Ga 68 are available at centers of excellence....make sure you are going to a good place for treatment... PCF has a map to locate that as well...

Best of luck on your journey...
