After radiation, what's left?

I'm finally starting radiation next week. The usual 5 day a week protocol

What's the end result? Is the prostate still there? Is it just scar tissue? Does the dead tissue just reabsorb?

If there is just a burnt blob, shouldn't it be removed?

Or is there enough live tissue left for it to somewhat regrow?

I am replying to your post because my husband just finished his radiation, he had many of these same questions for his doctor, so it resonates with me. I went to some of his appointments with him, and this is what the doctor answered:

Your prostate is still there. Your body reabsorbs the radiated tissue. I don't remember the doctor saying anything about scar tissue. A "burnt blob" doesn't remain. It can recur, but there is treatment for that as well.

Here is a good article (according to my husband) that answers some of those questions, I hope.

Wishes for wellness to you...We are all stuck on this hell ship...lending a hand to fellow crew men and crew women is what makes the ship more tolerable for all... We all have knowledge to pass on... I am here for more than the reason that I got PCa... so are you... Maybe someday, we will all get off the ship and have one crazy party...here's hoping...

Believe in miracles>>>>what nonsense. Shame on you for promoting this. We have an illness and practical medicines might help us, or not. If there were miracles, none of us would have this problem in the first place.

Bratisriver,

I believe in miracles....20 years ago, no one believed there would EVER be a vaccine to stop HIV... There is one in testing which has been proven in lab animals against the worst strains... Going into clinical testing...

Some might call that a miracle.. If you do not believe in miracles or God,that is your choice.. You have an illness, and so do I... We have differences but also...commonality...

I see you just joined today...Welcome....
