Yes it is very difficult, and when I had a short spell of needing a wheelchair, I couldn't go very far in it without help. Of course if you are measured for your own chair, and it's not the bog-standard type, it's probably going to be a lot more manageable!

when I was refused DLA they stated that as I had arm crutches there was no risk of falls!
I refuted this as the crutches are in no way "none fally over" ones, [ I didnt use those exact words]
offer little support and, even if they were, my arms can't hold me.I can't move a manual chair and need a scooter when I'm out.
I won on appeal.
I used the benefits and work guides.

bellablot did you have a form asking you to tick boxes to see if you can get DLA with your claim pack? as i am very confused about what it says in question 12! Because if you tick saying no to any of the in 12 then its saying that you do not qualify for DLA? Annie
i have a wheelchair which my hubby or 9yr old pushes i asked my OT if i could have a wheelchair which i could do myself and she refused on grounds of not having much upper body strength. i was upset with her decision as when we go shopping my 9yr daughter has trouble pushing me and then she has to push the shopping trolly and my OT just said do your shopping in smaller trips so that means it will cost more to do. im so not happy she didnt really listen to me.
