i personally wouldnt increase it without checking with your g.p first i am on a higher dose but codiene can cause problems with your stomache and also dependance so best to check as we are all different and what may work for one doesn't agree with another. hope you get a combo that works for you but its mainly trial and error until you find what works for you

thanks for your reply, can i ask what dose of codiene you take as i only take it about 3 times a week when the painis really bad so he may increase it?

i take 2 x30mg 4 times aday but iwould advise you to talk to your gp as ladymoth said this is the most would be prescribed for long term use and there are many more thing your doc could try but you need to be monitored whilst this is happening as fm/me/cfs sufferers have quite alot of intolerances (well thats quite common)

best of luck and healing hugs

30mgm of codeine is about the maximum that you should take on a regular basis.

Ask your GP for something else if Nefopam doesn't suit you. It's not an opiate drug, but it does cause nausea, dizziness and sweating in some patients.

There are quite a few other analgesics out there which you can try, but you will need your GP's advice.

I hope you manage to find a solution soon!

I take cocodamol 30/500 2 tablets up to 4 times a day. Tried nefapam, gabapentin, pregabalin, tramadol and others. All disagreed with me either making me feel sick, or like I was goin to pass out or gave me urticaria and blisters. Now just on cocodamol and voltarol gel and starting on sertraline which is an antidepressant. Will let you know how I get on xx

A lot of the time you get reactions with many medications. The first time I took tramadol, I was away with the fairies for 12 hours and Pregabalin left me feeling drunk, so I had to go to bed for my own safety.

After the first fiasco with tramadol, I too changed to co-codamol and had similar effects. My GP then a couple of years later put me back on tramadol but told me to only take 1 tablet instead of 2 for the first few days and this way it worked well, without the feeling of fairies. This may be worth thinking about for the future.

Hope you get your medication sorted out.

Here is information on the treatment of Fibro:

fibroaction.org/Pages/How-I...

How long have you been on Nefopam? It's an interesting, and often useful, drug for Fibro as not only is it an atypical analgesic but it apparently also has an effect on boosting dopamine, so may treat some of the changes in the brain that actually cause Fibro symptoms. Side effects may ease after a few weeks regular use, so your doctor may want you to stick with it to see if it is beneficial after this initial few weeks.

The maximum dose of codeine is 60mg 4x a day (btw, the maximum dose of paracetamol is 4000mg/day so I hope you were only taking co-codamol 4 times a day, not every 4 hours?) but your doctor may not be happy having you on that dose long-term. Codeine will also not treat the causes of the Fibro symptoms, so whilst it is a recommended treatment for Fibro and can be very useful for breakthrough pain, it isn't a good primary treatment.

Its horses for courses! Like everyone else, I have run the gauntlet with pain meds. Thing is some willwork for a while and then u build up a resistance. Had tramadol and cocodamol but at mo its paracetomol and morphine. So as u can

see from ppls responses, there are a range of options. But, I would say, if u arent convinced that your doc is on board with finding u a suitable pain relief, change your doc. U are alowed to these days with any fuss(alledgedly!)xx

Taken 30mg / 500mg Codeine Phosphate / Paracetamol 2 capsule's 4 times a day for 9 year's. Some days it takes the edge off the pain but nothing and i mean nothing works. You just have to deal with the pain any way you can. I find very hot bath's are the only way to ease my muscular pain. The headaches and neck pain only amitriptyline seems to work but will knock you out.
