hi i know bless you it is a bit of a shock when you have a flare up and the thing is you never know how long is it going to last ! and how bad it is going to get . i do feel for you as it is awful the pain and i have joints that swell up like knuckles but i dont often get that it is more of a burning sensation in all your muscles really deep inside and then on top of that pain too all over . i wish i could help you and everyone else on here but none of us have the answer we all have things that help soothe us and it is different for everyone so it is traila nd error until you find what helps you

i find a hot baths and heat and also heat pads and heat sprays /rubs

also hot wter bottles or those heat cusshions thatyou put in microwave

i hope thatyou have a gp who is caring and understands fibro i haver which is also helpful

i hope that you also have your mreds sorted out that is abnother trial and error issue getting your meds right but hopefully get all the above in place and you may get some relief

i hope to chat again love to you diddle xxx

diddle, do you realise that joints swelling up is not Fibro?

in reply toLindseyMid

hi yes i do know that joint swelling is not fibro but thanks for pointing it to others who may not love diddle x

Hello. Sorry you are suffering. I find warmth really helps too. Shower, bath, and like Diddle said, heat pads. I put on extra layers and try to keep warm. It will settle, honest. Hugs xxxxxxx

Yes, sometimes my thigh muscles can be so hot you can feel the heat like a radiator from an inch above my leg. I explain it as hot lead in my muscles. Try to see if you have a trigger, activity, stress of for me mainly a type of food - bread, chocolate or coffee, try to keep a diary if you can (easier said than done as its easy to be disorganised)

It wont last too long, best of luck :-)

funny u say that about ur thighs being so hot... my husband calls me his wee hot water bottle.. cause when he comes home after a late shift.. he is freezing and says that my legs gives him heat... the funny thing is..... sometimes it can be just one leg.. or one hand..even a couple of fingers can be hot and the rest cold... sometimes my feet are burning up so much i have to put them into a cool basin... x

Hi Kaz..it is a strange condition, i am having a flare up and i dont know reason why. My freind also try and keep a diary so will give it a go.

I feel like i have bad sunburn & joints are swollen, spent yesterday in bed & practicaly lay on my back & kept still as pain was quite severe when i mooved.

I have a good understanding dr and he gave me diazepam 5mg for beakthrough pain, not all types of meds suit everyone. I am up and about today with very gentle movements, as i was told to try & keep moving, it does ease off & i listen to my body so slow & gently is what i have to do...hope you feel better soon & that it dosent last too long...very gentle hugs take care..xx

Visible swelling is not a sign of Fibro - Fibro is not inflammatory. You may get burning pain and you may get sensations of swelling, both especially if you have myofascial pain alongside the Fibro. But you shouldn't get swollen joints or limbs.

Your right, I did try a part time job a couple of years ago and after an hour or so my legs did get swollen, I'm investigating more about the Lymphatic system as along with MPS the massage therapy helps the Lymphatic system drain ... or so I understand. :-)

Hi LindseyMid, I am new on here too and was diagnosed by a Rheumatolgist 2 years ago scoring 15/18 for the Fibro and also told i have Osteoarthritis. I have had unexplained swelling in my fingers and particularly in my fore-arms with painful aching and shooting pain. I have read lots of the questions posed on here and have found them to almost answer my own questions...thank you so much for that, but also they have made me doubt whether i have been diagnosed rightly. I also do get the sensation of swelling with no actual swelling but have not been told that i have Myofascial. I have also not long come out of a very extremely painful few weeks, with depression (that i hadn't realised i had) and major mood swings and fatiaque and the swelling in my arm. Do i have something else besides the two already mentioned.

I know you cannot diagnose.

Thanx everyone its been very helpful but when I go hospital in may will have tt ask about the hands swelling and also the feeling in my face. Sometimes it gets really scary I thought these things were for old people and pensioners.

Hi All, Sorry to be so dim but is myofacsial like numbness in the face? I get that but I've never heard of it, tbh I;m afraid to ask my GP incase it's something serious :$ Sounds stupid I know but I'm scared!!

I can get a sort of numbness, more like nerves aggitated and aching with a loss of sensation, sometimes it's just my nose thats numb ?? not sure if that helps :-) Dont worry. Myofacsial is more like pain and tightness I think, does it happen near drafts ?? silly question but that how it effects my mum. Go see your GP I'm sure on the whole these kind of things tend to be nothing worrying but its best to know.

It's confusing, I know. The word is 'fascial' with an 's' not 'facial'. Think of the soffits and fascias you get on houses (or at least that's what used to help me remember). Fascia basically just means 'covering'. 'Myofascia' means the covering of your muscles.

Myofascial restrictions or trigger points can occur on any muscle you consciously use. You can also get restrictions in the visceral fascia that supports your organs.

Even more confusingly though, myofascial trigger points can cause numbness and can affect the face!

i swell all over, like ive shot up a dress size and my face gets swollen, my rheumatologist said diffuse swelling is part of fibro, i know im hitting a flare up when i wake my eyelifds are swollen, also i burn up at night, hubby says i feel like im on fire during a flare up , its a very strange illness x

If he can show definite evidence that Fibro is inflammatory, I would be interested to see it. But I doubt he could.

Do keep getting checked. Many of the autoimmune & inflammatory conditions can be sero-negative at first (or long-term in a minority), meaning they don't show up in blood tests. In the US, Lupus can be diagnosed without positive blood results, but in this country, that often doesn't happen.

in reply toLindseyMid

hi yes i go regularly to my gp and she checks me every time gives me an mot lol feel like a car love diddle x

in reply towednesday_focker

i am the same as you i burn up at night although i have parts that swell it isn ormally my knucle and tummy but tummy is prob ibs i have lost weight though so gone down dress sizes funny how we are all different i saw a rheumatologist last july and he said the same thing to me when i asked anbput my knucle and knee swelling on occasion that it can be a part of fibro so thtas strange isnt it i do listen to people on here and take in there advice especially lynne fm she is very knowledgable but it is dificult for peopleas they dont know your medical history or meds you are on etc so ultimately although all advice is usually brilliant it is alway best to see your own GP/rheumatoligist or any other health proffessional if you are unsure about anything love to you diddle xx
