Not sure if the general anaesthic does cos every time I have had general anaesthic I have had an op ....11 of them and they deffinately cause a flare its very demoralising to see other people having the same op get up and go and I am there weeks after feeling like death with the skin all around the op site on fire and my brain telling me I am in agony if you did have an op then I would say it would be normal in my experience to have a big flare

Its normal sometimes - depending on the type you are given - its the effect it has on your muscles thats all - if you can ask you surgeon he will tell you if its a normal side effect.

The muscle relaxant that they give you can sometimes make you feel stiff and achy for several days.

It should soon wear off, but if it doesn't, then you may be starting a flare.

I had an anaesthetic recently and felt sore for a week after, but it was different to a flare - just didn't feel so bad, because I was OK when resting. When you have a flare you just can't get comfy anywhere!

Hello honey25, I have had three ops in the last 18 months, after each one I have gone into a major flare, I had a shoulder replacement and the agony I was in for the next three weeks, prior to the op I was told that once the offending joint had gone, so would the pain, so hey, why was I crawling up the walls needing higher and higher amounts of pain control? Eventually months and months later that shoulder is great, no pain at all, the other......well that had an op which didn't work at all and now awaiting another replacement.....the third was an appendectomy and I took 6 weeks to recover, not the normal 10 days......so my reply would be yes, it does effect you, how, is probably different for each of us, but I definately think GA's do bring flares on, IMHO

Hi honey25,

I had a general anaesthetic a year last Nov and my fibro went mad, it's never thankfully been as bad as some, but it kicked off big time like never before.

I went to my doc to get some test results and told her, ans she just said oh yes general anaesthetic can make some conditions worse....ie fibro arthritis etc.

Well thanks for that then!!!!!

I had eye surgery and it took me a good 3 months to recover.

I suppose it depends on the person, goos luck and hope you'll be ok
