A positive note about dla

I,m not bragging but I have read so many posts about people applying for dla and automatically being turned down and having to appeal and people saying they are too scared to b other about applying for dla because they cannot face the ordeal. it Isn't this bad in many cases, My son and I both get dla, different rates different reasons, so I told my friend to get her husband to claim as he is really very ill, He had a home medical and got dla awarded straight away... Yes you can say these are just three cases... But there must be other people out there who have applied for dla and got it first time, so please don't be put off applying

Thanks for putting the other side, VG.

We hear so many horror stories that it puts people off claiming, and I'm sure that the genuinely sick do get their benefits eventually - even if they have to appeal.

Im one of the people who have put off claiming as I just can't face the ordeal of an appeal but I think I'm going to take the plunge and just go for it. My mum, who is very ill with fibro, COPD, spondylitis, arthritis and a myriad of other ailments is appealing for the 3rd time. She does get DLA but both are on the lowest amount and she really does need help so is appealing to get the higher amounts. This hasn't exactly done me any favours lol. My mum does keep on insisting that I claim though .

Thanks for the encouraging post vg. It's good to know it's not always that much of an ordeal.

Love and gentle huggles

My daughter lives 350 miles from me, we lost contact 9 years ago. We have only recently been talking. She had a botched c section and got MRSA. She has been getting DLA for a year. Its up for renewal. She is laughing saying its so easy to get, if she gets it this time she will get a car etc. Now like I say we are in contact. She tells me the boys (4of) have been riding her like a horse, she has been skidding in the snow with the boys, she does her house from top to bottom. But, puts on the form she is wheelchair bound and they dont question her. I know I dont live her life and i dont doubt she went through the mill but she is better now, and lying to get it again. Its times like this when I think this makes it harder for us to get it. You know? Or am I being harsh? OH I dont know".

it certainally is very annoying when some people get dla so easily. no you are not being harsh, from what you describe there doesnt seem to be much wrong with your daughter. i have tried 5 times over the last few years to get dla and each time have been refused..i definately think that because of people like that, that is the reason its so difficult for others to get it.

This is my own personal opinion and not intended to upset anyone.

best wishes...nannyjenno

I HAVE MORE WRONG WITH ME THEN FIBRO ALONE AND I KNOW ITS ALOT HARDER TO GET NOW BUT IF YOU ARE LIKE ME AND GENUINELY FIND DAILY TASKS A REAL PROBLEM THEN PLZ READ MY POST ITS APPARENTLY PROTOCOL THAT PEOPLE USING CERTAIN WORDS ARE USUALLY ACCEPTED FOR DLA, I GOT MY ADVISE FROM THE CITIZENS ADVISE BEAUREA SOLICITOR, I HOPE IT MAY HELP OTHERS WHO WRONGLY GET DENIED THE HELP THEY NEED AND DESERVE

i got dla on my first application, i have fibomylagia, cfs, copd, ibs and 2 dislocated discs in my neck, and nerve damage down my right arm i have serious leg tremors and headaches to die for that last days im on 2700mg gabepentine, 400mg tramadol, 150mg diclofenic paracetamol and diazepam daily, for the pain which is still intense, 3 different inhalers for copd, pills for ibs aswell as 40mg of citralpram for depression but with the amount of meds im on im pretty zombied out but at least i can get out of bed, 3 years ago i was running my 2 businesses had a busy social life, played darts to county level, as well as looked after my mother and my 23 yr old son with adhd and my 6 year old daughter, i fell out of a pub SOBER!! SLIPPED ON THE ICE ON THE STEPS AND THAT WAS THE START OF A DOWN HILL TURN ,.. NOW IM PRETTY MUCH HOUSEBOUND AND NEED HELP WITH PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING... there are keywords you need to use when filling out forms and unless they are used you are usually refused (found this out from C.A.B) THEY ARE WHEN DESCRIBING UR ILLNESS USE THESE WORDS IF THEY APPLY TO YOU.... SEVERE, SEVERELY CONSTANT, CONSTANTLY, EXTREME,EXTREMELY CONSISTANT,CONTINUOUS, PERSISTANT, THESE ARE SOME OF THE WORDS I CANT REMEMBER THE REST, ..EXSAMPLE... I AM CONTINUOUSLY IN SEVERE PAIN,... I HAVE EXTREME PROBLEMS WITH DAILY TASKS.... I CONSTANTLY FORGET THINGS AND HAVE PERSISTANT COGNATIVE DIFFICULTIES,

always fill out your form based on your worst day without medication, i found this out when filling out my sons dla forms when he was 13 and was diagnoised with severe adhd hes 23 now and still has it as severe as ever,... THIS GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF ITSELF ID LIKE THEM TO SPEND A DAY OR 2 IN THE SHOES OF SOMEONE WITH THIS CONDITION AND SEE IF THEY THINK THEY WOULD BE FIT FOR WORK..... IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO APPLY FOR DLA TAKE HEED OF THESE WORDS THEY COULD SAVE YOU FROM BEING TURNED DOWN, HOPE THIS HELPS, I GET BOTH HIGH RATE FOR CARE AND MOBILITY

I got dla first time for a mental health condition, but I'm terrified of claiming for my fibro and hypermobility. I think it's because I've read too many horror stories but I'll speak to the doc for advice...
