Summer blues?

I've recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and I've been doing a tonne of research. What I've recently found is people saying the cold weather makes it worse. What I was wondering is, does it get any betterin the summer months or is it the same all year round? :/

I feel much better in the summer pain wise winter always makes me spasm up and stiffer even with central heating on and a warm cosy house nothing compares to proper sun warmth for me

Roll on the hot weather! it really does make most of us feel a lot better.

I avoid too much exposure to hot sun, tho' - that doesn't help me at all - for some reason it makes my IBS worse!

I suppose im worried because I have another condition on top of fibro. (Hypermobility syndrome) Im terrified that the pain will never ease up since both conditions seem to fight with eachother.... time will tell I suppose x

For me hunni it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. I wish it did. The warmer weather makes things just as bad for me and I can never seem to find a happy medium at all. In most the warmer weather does make things a little better, but not all xxxxx

For me personally, everyone is different but i feel totally exausted in summer the heat kills me. To the point of me refusing to go abroad again. I had not been on holiday for 18 years, my husband book 2 weeks in greece for my 40th... When i got home i had a flare up. It lasted 6 months, to the point my doc thought i had MS, my symptoms were hurrendous. But as i say Fibro effects everyone differently.

I prefer spring and autumn, winter affects my joints badly and sensitive to every little draft, but the summer leaves me feeling completely drained - when its hot outside, I stay indoors with my electric fan! IBS can be quite bad for me in the summer too, though its not behaving right now either :/

Thankyou very much. As you said it is a big change - I used to be a kickboxer but now im lucky if I can punch a hole in a wet paper bag. Mind you, I got out for a bit today and the sun was out and although I was in pain, I noticed the warmth more. It made such a nice change to feel the sun on my face. I even enjoyed some arts and crafts for the first time in a long time xx

Maybe people feel better in spring & summer because their topping up their vit D.

I take a vit D supplement every day, it helps to lift my mood in winter, especially since I suffer from SAD xx

I was lucky enough to spend a month in Spain last summer with a good friend. We did loads of walking and I swam most days. I love the sun and feel so much better when it's hot and dry. I 'pigged out' on vitamin D from the sun. I have very little pain and even lost a little weight!

Hot dry weather is definitely best for me :)

Hello trae, I think cold weather can make many conditions worse, so can excessive heat. It is just a matter of how you enjoy the weather. Are you a sun worshiper or do you enjoy a brisk chilly day? I love autumn best and thats when I feel at my best. Sometimes you can feel grotty no matter what. It is a matter of getting used to coping with this awful fibro.

Hope you are having a good day. X Helen
