Not sure I should really answer you as they made no pain difference at all but made my arm itchy round the patch... Hopefully someone with a more positive answer will come along, but at least if the patches don't help you ,, you are not alone

Well last time I used them they also made me very itchy.

Not giving much hope to them then either, thanks for replying anyway

Hi

I have had several adverse reactions to pain killers, there are many I know can't take so I am now on morphine. I tried the patches and to be honest they didn't do much for me but everyone is different and as you know in these cases it's trial and error.

I then tried liquid morphine and morphine tablets. I am now on slow release morphine tablets 30mg twice a day and they have been the best by far. Morphine can make you drowsy, may cause nausea or itching and you have to make sure you don't apply the new patch where the old one was. However many side effects do lessen in time. Be careful if you drive or operate machinery, until you know if you are affected.

I was very itchy when I first tried morphine but as with many drugs over time you build up a tolerance to them and it might be you will need to increase the dosage as your body becomes used to them. They are a handy, convenient form of pain relief as all you need to remember is to change the patch weekly.

Hope that helps.

Is the tablet better? I'm getting patches ok n my skin lasting weeks from the patches, I'm on 20mg, would tablet form b better for me?

I only know that it is the drug that is now used for

Fibro.

It's like subtex I think it has some thing to do with the

Nerve receptors

Hi I am now on 20mg and I am a big supporter of them. When I miss changing it for a day I cannot sleep with the pain. I think they are a plus and if you put the patches on alternative arms it will stop rash.

Hi I was put on Fentanyl 25mg patches 5 years ago but did not get on very well with them. My pain specialist then changed me to buprenorphine 20 mg 7 day patches and I find that they do help until I have a flare up then I need to up them to 30mg unfortunately at that dosage all I can do is sleep !!! They can make u nauseous and tired when u first start using them but that generally wears off.Hope this helps. Gentle hugs. :))) xx

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all your replies, most helpful. I'm going to give them a try as no reason not too.

I will let you all know how I get on in a couple of weeks.

Kind hugs to all

Here is some info on BuTrans patches which may be helpful -

i use these and hve been for at least a year,i find they itch awfully at times really un bearable. my advie is to always dry the patch thoroughly otherwise skin under neath patch gets very sore. i have a shower and then dry butrans patch with a hair dryer

This is a great idea. I get horrible sores that itch like mad and feel like a chemical burn. I hadn't thought that it might be getting worse because it is getting wet. I have excema and sometimes under bandages it hurts because water has become stuck under the bandage. I worry about the hair dryer because you aren't supposed to get it hot as it may cause the patch to release more medication at once than it should. Have you experienced this? All-in-all I love the patch. I can take itching as long as I am not a slave to my Norco.

i wear the butrans patch on my back so its out the way, now on 20 which has helped only with the duloxetine, nortriptyline and now pregabalin, i hope it helps you

I hope they really help - they did wonders for me and got rid of the all over general ouchiness and tenderness that fibro can give you. Also stopped getting really hurty hands first thing. I was on the 5mcg ones for about 3 years until I had a back op and was swapped onto Zomorph (morphine tablets). The only downside to them was the sore itchy skin. I did have the 10mcg ones for a bit but they burnt/hurt my skin too much.

Good luck and hope they help xx

I am on 25 mcg now and am still suffering - and having this trouble with the dwp and esa and dla is not helping matters

Hi, I have been using them for about 18 months now, I use a 10 and a 5 but my doctor also gives me a spare pack of the 5s so I can up them when I need to, the only problem I have with them is in the summer when you have to keep them covered because if the sun gets to them it makes them release extra because they work by the warmth of your body, I hope this helps :) xxx

Hi,

Im on 10mg patches, not working much for me, still have very bad pain at night and cant slleep with both hands and arms gone numb, hips pains, legs and feets hurting. Supose they work on some and not on others but its always worth a try as trying anything is always better than nothing, so i hope they work for you.

i been on them for a number of years now i started on 25mg and through the years i have had the dosage upped an now on 75mg,they take the edge off my pain but i feel as though i dont get the bennifit off them like i did when i first went on them, but that part and parcel of having fybro and me.

Hi Lucyw

I have been on these patches a while now, I did itch for the first couple but then it stopped, when my dosage went up I did have a bit of a nauseous feeling & a little lightheaded spell but apart from that they have been the best thing I have been given so far. I cannot seem to tolerate any of the usual orally taken medications--they make me very ill but have had no problem with my patches. I was a little worried about driving & such-like but it has been fine....hope you do ok too......x

I have been on the Butrans patch for a few months now. I LOVE THEM!! I do not have fibro, but I found this site while looking for information from others on sores from the Butrans patch. I worked with one of the best pain management doctors in California and when I had my second neck surgery he suggested these patches. I asked my own pain management doc if I could try them so I started on one and the pain wasn't always gone, but I woke up in the morning feeling like I felt before my surgeries! It was amazing. I do have some break through pain especially in the evening because I am more active on the patches. My doctor told me to try two when it was time to change patches. I tried two which was now giving me 20 mcg an hour into my system. That made me so sleepy. I told my doc that I think 10mcg/hr plus Norco for break through pain would work. I also take Gabapentin and Soma. There are lots of days I don't need Norco at all. The best thing about these new patches is that I don't feel high, like I would for 10 minutes after taking my Norco. Even when adding Norco to the patch at night I don't really feel "high" which is great. I highly recommend the patches. Yes I have sores when I place the patch in certain places. You have to alternate your locations every week while not repeating a location for at least three weeks. I strictly adhere to this. When I use it about 6" below my underarm I get great relief and use less Norco, but I get the worse sores there. I have yet to get a single sore on my arms at all. I think I will start trying an anti-histamine and hopefully that and the recommendation from one of the guys on here, will make it an even better experience. I saw your last post that you are holding off, but if the doctor suggests it, it is well worth the trial! I swear by these patches!!!

Hi have been on Butrans patches for about 3 months now, Started on 5mcg and now on 20mcg and this has helped a great deal with the excruciating pain i have been putting up with for the last 4 years thanks to Fybro.

I also take Pregabalin and Naproxin and must say this has been the best 'concoction' of medication i have been on over the years.

Yes the patches make you itch and can make you a little drowsy and nauseous but its a small price to pay to be relitively pain free, the rashes they leave behind are easily relieved with Distilled Witch hazel dabbed on a couple of times a day for a few days which you can buy in the 99p stores or poundland (instead of buying the same bottle and same strenght in a chemist for just under a fiver) .

Different people find different pain medication works better for them than others do but these work well for me!!
