Hello

I had one and there is nothing to worry about. You will need to be near the loo whilst you perge your system. I would defo say have sedation, you will be lovely and relaxed and remember nothing. I went home a few hours later and felt fine. No pain or anything.

Feel free if you want to ask any more questions.

Piggie hugs xxxxxxxx

Had an endoscopy without sedation, would do that again for a laugh! Well done you! Husband thinks I could do it without sedation, hmm, don't know about that! Xxx

good luck with it. I've had both and agree with munchkin on the experience [!] but sedation is preferable.

sandra.

Sedation seems to be the way to go then! Thankyou! Xxxx

I personally would always opt for sedation. I've had endoscopies up my nose and they're not much fun without anything at all. If I had been offered sedation I would have had it, it will relax you and you won't tense up so the procedure will be much easier.

Sedation gets my vote too! :)

I dont know about sedation...they would need to give me a full anaesthetic! Maybe im just a big baby but if i were you and offered sedation then go for it...its ok for your hubby to think you will manage without but its your body and you know it best. Hope all goes well for you.....keep in touch and let us all know how you get on xx

hi lib

after having 6 maybe 10 colonoscopies i would say def have sedation but make sure you tell them that you need more than other patients eg when i go to dentist for a filling i need at least 2 more injections than a healthy person. its not as daunting as you may imagine as they get you too lie on your side and when they give you sedation go with it dont fight. gentle hugs. And I do! My dentist always gives me an extra injection! :-) thanks, alyson! Gentle hugs back xxxx

I had one done a couple of years back, and opted for sedation, they ended up giving me extra, as I take dazepam for muscle spasms, and the sedation did nothing.

I was wide awake, and could have walked straight out, I noticed others sleeping ( I really wish I was too!) but even so I must say there was very little pain, apart from one small area where my bowel is narrowed and slightly twisted.

The people who performed the procedure were so lovely, and I really would try not to worry, as I said it was really not very painful, and I was so nervous, they made me feel relaxed just talking to them. I did take my painkillers before after checking it was ok to do so, I am sure you will be fine!

Best wishes Cazx

I had the sedation and like Fairytails I was aware of everything but didn't care. Well not too much. I seem to recall watching it on the video screen and thinking what an excellent job I'd done with my prep!! Oh and that I felt quite embarrassed about the whole event but was actually in very good spirits and even chuckling my way through with the doc and nurses during the procedure. Well how better to deal with the absurdity of having of it all? Really!?? You will be fine :) xx

My problem is accessing an escort for sedation as single and fact they are cancelling colonoscopy at last minute knowing of my history with breathing. The fact anaethetists and Drs/ Specialists/GPs don't want the risk means inordinate amounts time and finances have been wasted because LAs are ignoring their responsibility discriminating against the single/solo, to provide social services if a disability affecting your mobility .If found after birth the disability can be ignored until need anaesthetic.

The med pack and info sent to arrive friday lunchtime of Bank holiday II have even had a heart attack dying x3 at the time and still they ignore overall problems. with 10 min appts .then blame me when become anxious as often Telecare system[ corporate call centre] cannot follow agreed procedures so can call ambulances unnecessarily.Or burden relatives hundreds of miles away when arousal all that is needed. When sepsis sets in often this can be too late.
