Has anyone been sent for an ultrasound of their neck by their doctor?

To be told by the radiographer that you have a large cyst on your thyroid, and that the doctors/surgeons, wanted to examine the scan more before they send the result to your doctor?

The answer is no, but I have to say it is very unusual for them to give you results there and then without consultation first.

Hi Pinkpig99,

Well there was two consultants/doctors, and one radiologist present while I was getting the ultrasound in my neck, and the radiologist did the first ultrasounnd scan on it, and she frightened me a bit when she was going over my thyroid with the scanner thing and an inch or two around it and told the doctors to look and said 'look do you see all that something or other, it I think began with a c, but I pulled myself up a bit and asked her what that word meant, and she said a cyst on my thyroid, and I asked if it had anything to do with lymph glands, and she said no I just had a big cyst on my thyroid, and when I was going I asked the two doctors what happened now and they said they wanted to examine the scan a bit more and then send the results to my doctor, I thought it a bit strange, but I know sometimes they can be easily treated, I also know sometimes the treatment can be not so simple, so I'll have to just wait and see, however have to say this past few days its not so bad (pain has calmed a bit), so I'm obviously hoping for the best, I have to say once I mentioned a cyst on my thyroid to the work related benefit officer at the dole, she immediately without hesitation told me she did'nt want to see me again and wished me all the best with it,,,,,, thank you best wishes to you too Claire xxxxx

Hi Julie,

Well I told my doctor in may/june for the first time what it was like for me in the 8 years I worked, that I couldnt eat anything every working day, until I came home in the evening, unless it was a few crackers (for dinner), or watery soup in the winter, because it repeated on me and made me want to go to the toilet and caused me big problems working in a school enviourment, (no spare time to devote to a funny tummy as I called it. I also told him I was the only one there with the problem, that I knew anyway.

So he sent a four paged letter to the hospitals, because of this and my constant anemia low iron etc (fibro diverticular disease,, etc), and the first appointment I got was for a barium swallow at the cancer hospital (supposedly quicker appointment) so within a few weeks I was told the results which was a narrowed oesophagus, hernia on the same (at the join to the stomach, thus opened trap door there so to speak), and the cancer hospital made the suggestion that my thyroid was causing the narrowing.

Then I was called for a scan 5 months later (a few weeks ago), and the doctors at my untrasound seemed very annoyed that it took so long, to get that appointment.

So I am now waiting for my gp to get their observation and see whats to be done, which I'm sure will be a breeze, to treat, though perhaps long term (meds I guess), and yes my neck can be really sore, I even asked my doctor a long time ago (months) if I would be able to get a neck brace to use in the house, but he said my neck would only get used to being held up and would find it hard to hold itself up again, best wishes Claire xxxxxxxxxxx
