I'm on them. Like all treatments for fibro what works for one person doesn't always work for the next. The only downside is that you can become tolerant of the initial starting dose and may have to have them increased at a later date. In addition you may find that you will still need extra painkillers on bad pain days. That said they have decreased the average daily pain by around 90% in my case so on an average day greatly reduced my needs for my other pain meds. Unfortunately there will still be days where nothing works to take the pain away. Good luck if you decide to go ahead with them and I hope they work for you.

I'm on 35mg Butrans patches and find they do work but I also take cocktail of painkillers along with the patch. I find it can irritate the skin so I also take an antihistamine 2 counteract this. I find if my patch does happen 2 come off I'm in lot of pain so they must be doing some good. Good luck trying them and hopefully ul also get relief from pain

thanks nanaanna, i am hoping they will work i know they are gradually going to up the doze

I've been on them for 3 weeks now, start 5mg reducing my pregablin, I'm back at docs next week probs go up to 10mg and stop the pregablin altogether. I have found them very good so far. I've had one that wouldn't stick so had to use lots of plaster to keep it on, but the others been fine. hope it works for you xx

Hi, I started a few weeks ago with a 5mg patch, then went on to 10 mg patch. Unfortunately, I still have not noticed any pain relief. They usually stick ok, and although I have very sensitive skin, they only itch occasionally. I have read a few items which say opoids such as these patches should not be used for fibro treatment.Seems that we can never win!

I started on 10mg and ended up on 40mg (2 x 20mg ) Butran patches over a couple of years. However, for about a year before my extensive hip revision it didn't prove quite enough and I ended up 52.5mg Transtec patches, changed every 4 days. The Butrans certainly took the edge of a lot of my aches and pains (I also take diclofenac 75mg slow release x2 and gabapentin 100mg x 2/3 daily) but although the hip revision has taken away the REALLY sharp scream-inducing pain, my back and most other joints, muscles and tendons were still pretty bad.

Now it's hard for me to know what is OA and what is the fibro, admittedly, but I would say that they are pretty effective (without them my back would be agonising even just at rest and I feel as if I have permanent flu type aches - wheras with them, it only hurts when I walk or stand for more than a couple of minutes) and I do hope you get some relief too.

I was on 35mg and at first were great. But aftter 4 weeks i started t look like a patchwork quilt as they were turning the skin yellw and pussy. The final straw was when i was n hliday and one drpped ff and and i put one on that was last of pack and that fell off that night. Murder. so i am now on some instant adictive drug called oxycontin, it does its job but i get massive withdrawal even 10 minutes late taking it. Funny last night n tv, 3 separate programs and 3 people who were either addicted t it or abusing it.

One persons poison is another persons golden tresure.

I was on them for around 8 years - changed from a 70mcgm Butrans patch to Fentanyl ones because of severe skin irritation. Where the patch was felt like bees were stinging me and the skin would tear and bleed when they were taken off. The Fentanyl patches suit me very much better, they are smaller and don't irritate quite so much. It took a while to get the dose right but it was worth the change!

Butrans was effective though in the main although I've always taken additional meds to supplement & cover breakthrough pain.

How are they suiting you?

hi Celtic moon and everyone else, so far I am hanging in there but I swear I know when it is moving through my bloodstream. I have to admit to getting itchy but I feel that is Lyrica as I take 50 gms in the morning and the same at night, if I try a higher doze all I do is sleep. Igo to see the pharmacist at the hospital soon and she will fix my meds for me
