I was disgnosed with Fibro back in July, and since then I've been looking at finding a way to reduce pain and increase energy through supplementation and not reply solely on medications.
Has anyone had any positive results with supplements?
Thanks a lot.

I found co-enzyme Q10 very usefull. Helped with energy levels. Its not cheap to get a decent strength. I took 120mg per day. Unfortunatley since i gave up work I can't afford it
Hi Chris
I have been taking Vit D for a couple of years since I was tested and found to have very low level.
About 3 months ago, I decided to start taking more supplements, and I have to say that I am noticing a definite improvement. I researched the necessary building blocks for the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine which are apparently low in fibro sufferers. It's a long list, but most of them can be found in a good quality multi-vit/min! Aslo, I try to eat foods that are high in each of the needed elements.
Altogether, I take:
Magnesium, b12, d3, omega 3, multi-vit & min with probiotic, CoQ10, in the morning, and if I remember (often not!) I take HTP5 in the evening to help with the sleep. I'm not convinced about the last one though, which is probably why I don't always remember to take it. If I was sure it worked, then I would be much more conscientious.
Apparently world-class chess players take B12 to help their brains!
I have read varying reports about omega 3 v omega 3-6-9. I have chosen to stick with 3 on its own, as some reports state that we get plenty of 6 in our average diets, and manufacture 9 ourselves as long as we have plenty of 3 & 6, and too much 6 can be detrimental to the other two.
As one of the other answers says, CoQ10 is good for energy. I too take 120mg. It is expensive compared to the others. I get mine from Holland & Barrett, and their buy one get one half price helps a bit. I would take a higher dose if I could, as I've read that fibro sufferers should take 300mg at least once a day.
It does all add up financially, but I think it's worth it. I still work part-time, and last week, I worked a full week, in Austria! Adding in the exhaustion of flying etc, I'm amazed how well I coped. I know I couldn't have done that a year ago! I can't prove it's all down to the supplements, but I am sure they play an important part.
I'm not a doctor, and this is not a cure. But it helps me. Also, apart from a small amount of osteo-arthritis, I don't suffer from any other conditions, so I am lucky in that regard, and I can just target the fibro!
I realise this is a very long answer, but I hope it helps.
That's brilliant, thanks for such a comprehensive answer!! I've been reading up more and coming across a lot of what you've summerised for me, the dosage of the CoQ10 I hadn't seen, so that's cleared that up a lot for me thank you!!
I'm a distributor for a supplement company so I'm off to check out the dosages of all of theirs......
you've been so helpful, I really appreciate it, especially as I'm starting to feel fatigued on a more regular basis now. x
I MAY BE WRONG but i think you need magnessuim with vitiman d as they go together and help each other absorb into your body.i noticed since being diagnosed with fibro, and m.e. i have become low on vitiamin d,have injections now for that.and low in b12,iron,maybe ask your doctor to give you blood test for all them also your magnessuim levels.as i now have to take vit d injections every 3 months iron and b12 tablet everyday, and now the magnessuim with added vit d once a day.
Brilliant thanks, I've just changed to a different doctors surgery actually since the ones at my last one told me this was all in my head, and to deal with it and move on...which was really good of them......so I shall speak to my new GP about getting blood tests done, thanks for the advice
