Why has my DLA gone down?

Hi I am on DLA due to an illness. Before my illness I have been a hard working person for 25 years. My care component has gone down from middle rate to lowest rate. I don't understand how this can change since my state of health has not. Also, can I appeal against this decision, or am I stuck with it? Thank you.

You can either appeal or ask for a reconsideration . If you appeal they will do a reconsideration first.

However you have to be aware that if you do ask for either of those things they can decide to remove it altogether . It's a risk you have to weigh up the pros and cons for , before you decide what to do.

If you click on the link below there is information explaining Reconsiderations and the appeals procedure etc. If you are unhappy with a decision regarding your benefit you have the right to appeal, there is also info about this if you click on the link below -

appeal, Ask for the reasons and go through each negative and explain why it's wrong e.g. mine said that as I use crutches I did not have a risk of falls - this is so wrong!

get all your medical professionals to write in support - ask them to send it to you explaining you want to collate everything into a claim pack. copy everything. I recommend you do this:-

go to main page,

go to FibroAction site, click on fibro and benefits this should take you to the benefits and work

link where you can download the pdf. this helps you answer the dla questions and gives great advice.

DLA are trying it on. They have targets to reduce the govt bill no matter what they say. Appeal is your right. Get help with appeal evidence and never go to a tribunal without right representation. I hope they will not make you go to tribunal but if you have to, then do it. I am still fighting to get any mobility and I get low level care. That small sum per week is all I have after losing my govt job as too sick to work (signed off by govt doctor as too sick to work). Appeal and take it all the way, do not become a successfull reduction target. My friend had the same, nothing had changed but after 3 years they dropped him to low level. I helped him appeal and he got reinstated. He had to appeal the first time around and was refused twice until I helped him and he then got high mobility and medium care which is what he needs. When it came to myself I was not so fairly judged and had bad deal with GP who is obviously on the side of the govt coffers and not justice.

Hang in there and stay sane, you are not alone!

Thanks for your advice, makes you angry does'nt it, the goverment gets paid for running the country, but has got the country in a hell of a debt, & people like us seem to be paying for it. Anyone else who has done such a poor job at work would no doubt be sacked. Mark. x
