sun beds
Umm used one when I was younger for tanning nearly 30 years ago, Found it gave me prickly heat so gave up and haven't been near one since after all the fuss about skin cancer and burning .... Mind you tabs I am on say avoid sunbathing doing things out in direct sun as these tabs make it easier for my skin to burn... Which turns out to be true. Spent sometime in garden yesterday and today my arms look like a boiled lobster. And I thought I was sitting in the shade.
Hi,
I had never thought about using sunbeds myself, it hadn't occoured to me that it could be of benefit. I also will be interested in the comments on this.
Elaine
Hi ladies. I used sunbeds this winter past for 3 mins 3 times a week. I covered up in factor 30. I know it defeats the object of getting a tan but i found the warmth of them helped my sore body a little and also the artificial sun made me feel a little happier. And it was my local practice nurse who suggested using them as she thought i was suffering with SAD. X
Hi
I have used sunbeds it does warm your muscles up. I usually go on in the winter and find it helps mood as well I suffer from SAD's and the Vitimin D is needed too. I go on for 10 mins once a week for a few weeks then every now and again when needed.
Thanks everyone I think I might just give it ago, Barnsleysar never even thought of putting on a protector so that seems a good idea. Irenegee do you do 10 mins all at once? Elaine what do you think? evilena I hope your arms heal soon, if you have an alovera plant rub it on top of both arms it will heal quick.
Thanks again hope you all have a peaceful day hugs Ingrid xx
yes i do ten mins laying down but i turn round after five mins to cover my face but it will depend on the strength of the sunbed and I found 10 mins warms me right through rather than several shorter sessions but thats only my preference.
ask advice from the sunbed shop and start low and build up if not enough rather than going on too long and burn.
good luck hope it helps
hi there!
i got my sunbed because of my aches and pains. i go for a 'little holiday' 2/3 times per week. it does help my back almost like deep heat. its an old fashioned top and bottom one you lie in (like the sandwich toaster!) i put my music on and relax....xx
Hi Tess10, 20 years ago my GP suggested 2 half hour sunbeds a week as they helped me so much. However; now that they have evolved into those stand up ones that take only minutes. I used to get so much out of 30 mins laying on a sunbed. I have just come back from spending 3 weeks away in 110 heat. I was off my meds my body loved me again. My rhumey jokingly said I need to move to somewhere really hot. I only wish I could. However I did mention to him that i really don't believe I have FMS, as many people suffer more in the heat, he was so shocked about my bodies suppleness and lack of pain that I am being sent for more TESTS!!!!!! I think I'm still in denial about FMS xxxx
Hi, I use sunbeds for 6 mins up to twice a week sometimes and its usually in winter . The warmth is lovely and I always feel better with a tan . However when I was first diagnosed with f/m I mentioned sunbeds and questioned the benefits with my gp and he said the benefits were all in my head ! well that would be the same as f/m then lol Ive come to the conclusion if it makes me feel better and its not hurting anyone else go for it . x
hi,i know someone who got sunbed treatments on prescription!,,i know theres a risk of skin cancer, but hey lifes a risk!! lol..iv been thinking about going on them again, and will try the stand up shower ones, probly easier to manage..take care xx
For anyone interested in using a sun bed it's always important to point out the skin cancer risks, please be careful folks. Scroll down the article on the link below for info on sun beds, risks etc -
Whilst it is very important to be aware of the risk of skin cancer, it is also important to look very closely at the research itself and specifically, the peoples tanning habits, location and number involved in the various studies.
If you are going to use a sunbed, go to a reputable salon that gives a consultation and use a high spf in outdoor sunlight.
The benefit of using a sunbed, is that the eu has introduced legislation to ensure lamps do not exceed the heat of the mediterranean midday sun and as such, you can regulate exactly your uv exposure. Whereas if you go out in the outdoor sun without protection, you do not know the uv spectrum/strength of it at any one time.
There is also a great new invention which is a paper wrustband that measures your uv exposure
We as humans need uv light to metabolise and produce vitamin dand i am currently conducting personal researchby using a sunbedfor 3 minutestwice a week to try and raise my vit d deficiency from a 28 to a normal level and hopefully this will reduce my pain levels
There is a lot of research out thereand as withanything, moderation is best
