Sensitive to sun

Hello, does anyone have extremely sensitive skin when in the sun? I’ve always had fairly sensitive skin & used to get prickly heat when I was a child but since I’ve been taking meds for fibro & arthritis, my skin is so so sensitive. I wear factor 50 & I still go red. Also had a few little blisters on my arms? Thanks

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I was taking Gabapentin. I’ve stopped taking it (for various reasons) and this hasn’t happened again. Could just be a coincidence, but wanted to share xx

Thanks for that. I’m taking nortriptyline and read that it can cause skin sensitivity. So difficult not being able to be in the sun In the garden with two young kids! I used to take hydroxychloroquine which caused Sensitivity but not as bad as this 🙈

I notice you've already had a reply that meds can cause photosensitivity. I get this and need to ensure that I use high factor sunscreen when outdoors.

I was sitting in shade last week due half an hour, and didn't realise that even in shade my skin had reacted to the sun till later xxx

Yes I’m the same, it’s almost like the heat also causes my skin to react & overheat. It’s tricky when the weathers like this & you want to be outside. Xx

For me it is the heat and the sun when outside, In the past, not knowing it was both, I’ve had to use prescription cream to calm a red face and take an antihistamine pill at night. Now I’m wise to it.

Only on citalopram at the moment. Dos seem to be worse over the last 5 years after being diagnosed with fibro everything seems more sensitive.

in reply tobigalan

Yes I agree, I’m so sensitive to everything, even if I knock myself on something, it hurts so much & bruises straight away. 🙈

Hi,

Yes I have noticed my skin burning if it's not covered when out in the sun. It never used to do that before. However, my sister was told that it's the medication she was on when it happened to her, she's on Amitriptyline and I was on that for a couple of months last year so I don't know if that sensitivity continues after you stop taking it. So yes, I now use factor 50 when I'm in the sun.

Hi Jb1111, sorry to hear you’re having a hard time with your skin. Since I came off ampitriptyline I think it’s been much better. Although I wear no7 factor 50 face cream every day & put a lavender based face serum on at night. I wear a sun cap when it’s bright. I have been using piz buin allergy sun lotion on my arms & it seems much better. Hope you find something that helps x
