I would like to ask, how important is to ask the doctor for an MRI scan, because in my time with this disease FM, I have never been submitted. You believe it is necessary to make one? Thanks for your reply and valuable assistance. xxoo

Hi, can you help me....
Fibro on its own doesn't show up on MRI scans its the other things that occur alongside fibro that we get sent for MRI s mine were for my arthritis and gallbladder which resulted in a diagnosis of osteo arthritis and had to have my gall bladder removed.... Hoops that helps
Xx
Thank you very much for your answer is very clear and well understood.
Thanks xxoo
I haven't had one - but then I am newly diagnosed. Has a couple of MRI's on my brain to assess the damage that my strokes have done though, not the most pleasant of experiences but it does only last a few minutes.

Okay Christine thanks very much
MRI is mainly used to confirm you do not have dementia or MS lesions. It is not necessary for a diagnosis of fibro however it is so like MS in symptoms that I personally think it is worth having even thought it left me with a week long headache.
i have not had one sorry ... lots of blood tests bone scans and being fobed off but
no MRI
gentle dyslexic hugs
:) thank you!!
Hi, I have had an MRI on my neck as i couldnt move it and docs didnt want me to go back to work but i hadnt been diagnosed with fibro by then. Lower back mri to make sure nothing else was going on but this was through my chiro. Last but not least two head mri scans one of which i had this march and it was just to check again that it wasnt ms. All my MRI scans have been clear but docs as far as i know dont sent you for an mri scan for fibro.
Take Care

Hi Julianne
I've had 2 MRI scans. 1 showing osteoporosis in my spine & hips, & 1 on my damaged shoulder. (I go into hospital thursday for operation on this.)
I have read that in America they have found that Fibro does show up on MRI brain scans. There is part of the brain that doesn't function properly. They therefore call Fibro a condition affecting the central nervous system which causes widespread muscle pain & fatigue.
I think that sums it up very well. I don't think there are any tests in Britain like that, probably cost too much money!
Gentle hugs xx
I have never had an MRI scan Julianne, they are normally recommended for other conditions and not Fibromyalgia singularly.
Thank you
Julieanne I think I would like an mri scan to see if it showed up my fibromyalgia, I got on once because of broken bones, and its flipping noisy (seeminigly its done with magnets that bang and bang like big drums despite having music played into your ears through ear things), but I'd be willing to suffer it again just for that diagnosis even if my rhumy has diagnosed it anyway.
