Hi and welcome. Many medications originally developed as anti-depressants are often used for chronic pain conditions because of the effects they have on important neurotransmitters, and also sometimes because they have useful side effects of helping sleep and relaxing muscles. Your doctor prescribing an anti-depressant for Fibro does not mean they are saying you are depressed.

Here is some info on how Fibro is treated:

Which anti-depressant has your doctor prescribed?

Ask doctor for stronger pain killers .... there are plenty out there

Hello and welcome Fibrojane!

It might be worth you asking your GP for a referral to a Rheumatologist. I assume you've had a proper diagnosis?!

As Lindsey says so correctly, it's not uncommon to be prescribed antidepressants for Fibromyalgia. I take Amitriptyline which is listed as an antidepressant but it helps relax my muscles which in turn helps me to sleep at night.

If you are in so much pain, speak to your Doctor and tell him/her that you aren't getting any pain relief and see if they can't prescribe you something else to help ease your pain.

Take care Fibrojane, I hope you get some comfort soon. :)

Hi sorry you are in so much pain... I too take 75 mg dosulepin at night and 0.5. Mg clonezapam with those to scramble my brain signals against pain and help me sleep and they do help me sleep with I do without I don't so don't think the dr automatically thinks you are depressed but it would be a good idea to try your dr or maybe another in the same practice if that's possible to get help with the pain. Good luck and use this site everyone knows snippets that others don't and the ideas I have had from here are great xx

hello and welcome ..

some advice ( if you want it xx )

no your not depressed but lots of sufferers have discovered that anti depressants do help ease the symptoms of fms .. Make sure you find whats right for you and that means time ( sorry) tablets need to settle in and you will know when the balance is right for you..

take the pain killers as perscribed not when you have pain so if it said 4 times a day try it as Fms is not like a headach .. you take the tablets when the pain starts getting bad

hope this makes sence you will find great help on this sight but its also about your self knowing how you deal with it best xx
