Is there any way to take a shower that isn’t an energy sapping nightmare?

I can’t bath because my bath is too low and very small and l weigh in at 17 stone 😔

Does take a lot out of us when we bath or shower especially when it’s been so hot, have you tried one of those adapted chairs that fit inside shower could take the strain off . Just posting a link that normally generates more replies from our members. healthunlocked.com/fibromya.... Take care

Thank you for your reply, l use a bath board that goes across the top of the bath and it sits like a shelf.

The main problem is after the shower is getting dry and dressed, I just seem to run out of energy (spoons) if you know what l mean 😔

Okay that’s a good idea, do you get parts of the day ie the morning or later at night when you feel alittle better to shower, your right it is a task in itself I find bathing later at night before bed so I can rest after when there is nothing else left to do , like youself harder to get out than getting in . Not too keen on showers do like some epsom salts in my bath or radox . Can you get any help from a member of your family ?? I know we all like to be independent but getting dry and dressed takes a lot out of you.

I have a bath lift which was provided FOC via my occupational therapist. It’s really simple to use and takes up to 22 stone. Ask for a referral if you haven’t got an OT. Helps after too cos you can get dried and dressed on it x

There are days when showering has this affect on me so what I do is make sure I give myself plenty of time to shower and get dressed so I am not rushing and putting myself under additional stress or pressure. I also have the water as cool as I can tolerate as I find the heat saps my energy. I have a big towelling robe that I wrap myself in which absorbs a lot of the moisture without me having to put lots of effort into drying (although there are those spots that need extra attention). Basically I just take my time, pace myself and have little rests when I need to. As Yas has mentioned it's a good idea to pick the time of day when you feel more up to the task. Take care. x

I have found that a towelling robe is a big help. You can get them online or from catalogues like House of Bath. You just put on the robe instead of towelling down, which I found took so much energy. The robe does much of the drying for you!

Hope this helps.

Hi Hereward_68 😊🌸🌿

I too find showering a task that completely drains my energy. I have decided to break the task down into 2 sessions. Do 1/2 at a time a couple days apart. There is a solution invented by the USA 🇺🇸 NASA team that allows a bath without rinsing. You could wash the other 1/2 while sitting on a stool so it will still get cleaned. You can alternate your cleaning pattern this way to accommodate your specific needs.

It’s just an idea. I have torn ligaments and tendons in my ankles and I simply have to use the NASA bath solution when I can’t stand in the shower. It leaves a very pleasant scent and after you’ve washed there’s no rinsing.

Best wishes for the right solution for you dear.

You can try a shower seat!

Use a towel robe to get the most of the moisture then a hair dryer to do the hard to reach places

Hi Hereward_68, I can only have a shower as my bathroom is a wet room. I long for a bath to ease my pain, but can't have one.

I make sure I have plenty of time to shower so I don't need to rush. Just slow everything you do down to a much more relaxing pace and take you time with everything. That way it isn't so difficult or energy (spoons) consuming to do.

If you do it that way, taking a shower will be a pleasant experience and you can enjoy the warm water easing your pains.

Hope you find an easier way for you, so you can enjoy your showers. 😊
