morning!

It is often difficult to change the way you do things, but persevere, and you will be fine. i just plod rather than pace. i have one speed, one gear, one body! My thinking is that it will get done eventually! have a great day :-) xx

I too recently went on a pain management course. I was the only one of 8 still working. I just couldn't relate to 'pacing'! i.e. get up at 10am. do half hour of ironing instead of 1hr. Sit down and rest when your body says rest etc, etc.Just not practicle at this point in my life. Also I still haven't really accepted that I have FM. For years I had RA, now suddenly FM. Same symptoms different name.I know I shouldn't go out and do 2hrs in the garden, because I WILL pay next day. On top of working in a Pre School 5 mornings a week, this doesn't leave much manouvor for pacing.I know what I should do. Just haven't got the hang of actually doing it!! trouble is I need everything done yesterday and everything done by ME!!!! I know this doesn't really answer your question, but you are not alone in finding it difficult. I think a change in mind over matter needs to be achieved first. Pacing second! Best wishes Sue

It took me a while to get into my pacing, especially with my writing. As a full time writer it's difficult to stop and rest at regular intervals, especially when I'm in the middle of something gripping!

I found that after working out my activity times, at first I reduced them still by about 5 or 10 minutes the gradually extended the time between rests etc.

At the moment, with my writing I can sit and write in forty minute chunks, but my pain consultant has advised I cut it to thirty minutes for now.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Take care of you xxx

I've been in the position where I've not been able to do a thing so I found starting from there easier when I was able to do more, I recomend lists, lots and lots of lists so you know what you've done and need to do, it also does you good to see how much you have achieved. Pacing is like cooking, its all about timing and paying attention. Also build a list of questions like "what do you want to achieve today" "does it HAVE to be done today and is it worth the cost" they can help you figure out what is best for you that day because sometimes I just dont know what to do with myself :-)

Hope that helps
